More progress at the boat yard. Some parts of the "New-old" boat are going back together. The new motor mounts are installed with better backing plates, new trim tab pump, and the yard is replacing the old thru hull fittings. The fuel tank has been sanded, painted and reinstalled. They blocked the tank with starboard and cut drains in the fule tank bed ( the tank bed wouldn't drain before). Marine head is on order, a new 1000 watt transducer is on order for my old FCV 582L, FloScans on order. I am going to use my old electronics from my old Mako: a Simrad AP11 auto pilot. Furuno FCV-582L, Northstar 952 XS GPS, Furuno Loran, and Furuno 16nm radar. Also, I am going to install two RCI fuel purifiers before my Racors.
As for the Cummins motors, they compression tested good at about 2100 hours each so we are not going to overhaul them, but we are going to change everything else. New starters, generator hoses pullies belts, motor mounts, etc... The turbos are ok, but the coolers from both motors didn't survive the pressure test and will be replaced. We will soda blast the motors and paint them with Emron. The transmissions are off to the twin disc shop. They should be salvalgeable. I had two new prop shafts made. The old shafts were both cracked at the key holes.
After all of this, Christmas might be slim. All of the Christmas money is going to the boat yard. My poor children will have to eat snapper and venison for the holidays!
"When Blackfin aquired the assets of Cary Marine in the 1970's, included in the package was this 32'6" hull originally designed as a high performance offshore racer. Blackfin engineers took this hull, modified it for sportfishing application, and introduced her in 1978 as the Blackfin 32 Sportsfisherman. (Note that she became the 33 Combi in 1980). The standard 454-cid gas engines will cruise the 33 Combi at a fast 26-27 knots, 36knots+ at WOT. 210 hp CAT diesels will cruise at 21-22Kts, 26 Knots WOT."
Would it be better to have high speed pickups on the thru-hulls on the intakes? I can't remember if I had ones on mine when I had an inboard... Great project, awesome machine!
We have engines! The engines are fininshed, except that the transmision dipsticks are on back order. The mechanic pretty much replaced everything except for the fuel pumps. He did gasket kits, water pumps, alternators, hoses, belts, harmonic balancers, idlers and idler arms, pullies, etc... The seals in the transmissions were replaced as well as the shifter arms, and drive rings. Incidentally, the hoses and belts for both motors cost less than they did for my V10 Ford F350. Hopefully, they will be dropped into the boat at the end of this week.
As for the boat, she has been rewired, new head, radar antenna pad installed, bilges are being painted, going over the bonding strip, and on, and on. Once most of the yard work is finished then the electronics man will install the electronics. I will have more ship yard pictures next week.
Unless you know the person or company who is rebuilding the engines very well you are better off not having them paint everything like that, when they paint everything you cannot tell what is old or what is new and has been replaced.
Curious. what HP are those and what size is the elbow?
Sam, my father has a coozie with Ram Runner on it. He probably got it from Rip Tide's part of the dock at Woody's. As for the engines, I hope they will be in the boat by tomorrow afternoon. Hurry up and wait.
I have the exact engine in my custom 27'
I rebuilt it after it came out of a long liner with 8000 hrs on it.
Your engines look like they are just sitting on the hard concrete ground? The oil pans on these are cast Alluminum ..be careful they split from all that weight real easy .....
Just thought I would mention..I found out the hard way.
