Default Downtown Jacksonviile Fourth

Since it is also our anniversary on the fifth we went downtown for the afternoon of the fourth and booked into the downtown Omni for the night. We watched the the Fireworks from the Omni pool deck.

We sat outside at Hooters, right on the river, for a pitcher of beer while we watched the river go by.

An unusual sight - a ketch rigged catamaran.

Channel 4 News interviewing the boater tied up in front of us.

We watched this scene unfold. The dock marked by the colored bollards is saved for emergency vessels and well sign posted. The people on this boat tied up there and walked away. the dock master walked up and down trying to find them without luck. Eventually the FWC patrol came along and impounded the vessel. He had tied up to the boat, untied the boat from the dock, and was pulling away when the owner ran down and grabbed the boat and shouted at the officer. After a long back and forth, he got his ticket, but got to leave on his boat.

Doesn't matter how busted up you are, if you're addicted....

This guy seems to be a bit confused?

Just before the fun starts - they raise the middle span of the Main Street Bridge.

The boomers start. From three bridges, and three barges between the bridges as well as from the tops of the skyscrapers.

Picking up...

Grand finale - turning night into day!

We have awesome fireworks here in Jax. Downtown, they reflect off of the glass buildings and they shoot them from different locations. Towards the end, one whole bridge span lights up with a huge continuous shower of sparks raining from the bridge to the water(St. Johns River). Unfortunately I missed it this year but it is great.

I haven't been down for the New Year's fireworks yet but I hear it's even better.

My fiancee's parents live in Jax. We were down there for New Years and it was packed. There were a ton of people down town for the Gator Bowl the next day. It was a lot of fun, they do a nice job with those fireworks
