Made our way from Philadelphia to Chesapeake City to Indian River, DE over July 3&4. Smooth sailing and 26knts from Philly to Chesapeake City and stayed for the night. Met friend or 18 there and had a very good time.
Here is the Delaware Memorial Bridge as we are heading south on the Delaware River.
In the distance is the city of Wilmington, DE.
Here we are the morning after the long night at the Chesapeake Inn.
Best shot of the trip. Buddy at about 3am after having a very long fun Miller Lite laiden day. Passed out under the bunkbed with about 5 zip-ties in his hand trying to figure out how to prop up the bed. Notice the fish boxers...a true fisherman at heart.
Left Chesapeake City at 945am not bothering to listen to the forecast, afterall it is 4th of July and is usually beautiful. The Delaware river was nasty with standing 4 footers stacked up from the 20-25knt south wind and ripping outgoing tide. Managed a blistering 13knts all the way to Lewes DE. Had to stop in Lewes because what should have been a 3hr tour turned into a long, slow wet ride. Stopped in Lewes for some much needed food because I convinced the crew to skip breakfast so we could make it to Indian River around lunchtime. Had a nice lunch in Lewes at 345pm.
Came out of Lewes, DE and was greated with 25knt S winds, small craft advisory and steady 4-6-7' waves and we had to run right into them. 8 hours later we got to Indian River, DE....soaking wet and tired. Guess I should have had an enclosure made for the bridge? Couldn't take any pics because the seas were that bad. Oh yea....saw ZERO other boats out all day.
