Re: Wouldn't recomend the overnight heard it on the local news this AM. trying to get more details.
here are some excerpts from Providence Journal website:
"The gargantuan storm that pummeled the East Coast, wreaking havoc from North Carolina to New England, didn’t spare Rhode Island.
Torrential rainfall raised the Woonasquatucket, Pawtuxet and Blackstone rivers to flood levels, washed out a bridge in West Warwick and caused a storied Russian submarine, a popular tourist attraction just south of the Hurricane Barrier in Providence, to list dangerously to port.
........
At the Russian submarine, several students in a course for electrical workers found the 3,100-ton diesel-power warship listing to its port side and sinking at the stern when they arrived for the class they take aboard the vessel around 6 p.m.
Frank Lennon, president of the Russian submarine museum, theorized that stern tanks had filled with water in the heavy downpour. He said it was no big deal. The Providence River is no deeper than 24 feet that point. The deep-hulled sub was separated from the river bottom by no more than a foot of water.
Lennon said the plan was to wait till the tide went out, beaching the submarine, and then pump out the water-filled tanks."
