Default Southport

If there are flaws in a Southport they hide them well.

I like the rod holders in the console floor. Nice touch.

The one at the Boston show was priced at $148 K , show special. Compared to other boats in the size range, definitely worth it.

Sweet machine

Last year at the Raleigh boat show the regular 28 was 168 so 148 seems like a pretty good deal. Anyone know what the miami price was. it looks like the 26 says 129 which is about what I expected but I thought the 28 was a bigger price jump.

They make a really nice boat.... I can't wait to see what they come up with that'll carry the new bigger motors... They gotta have a 34 or so in the works....

That's exactly what I said last year. These boats are put together. I put them on top in their class.

The anchor set up works great on my 28 Southport. The only possible problem you could have with it is if you trailer this boat and it's an extremely low tide, you have to pull the boat on the trailer, pull the truck/trailer up slightly to give it a bit more angle, then finish loading the boat. But it's no big deal at all.....I've had my Southport for over a year now and I fish in all kinds of Midatlantic conditions and have loved it. Bob...

I had real doubts about getting the windlass set-up on my 28 Southport. But my friend talked me into it, and said I would definitely be glad I had it once I used it. Didn't get to use it until this past fall when we anchored up in Delaware Bay for Stripers. Made three trips, and it worked extremely well. There are switches at the console, and right at the anchor hatch below the bolster, (which is the one I use). My friend was right

Thanks for the pictures Ludicrous. After one season and 120 hours, I'm still looking for those hidden flaws

Some might disagree, but I would like to see a rubrail just above the waterline to deal with the tumblehome.

Take a look at these pics and decide for yourself:

Southport now offers a rubrail that can be installed at the factory that runs just above the waterline....good thought!

I just use cloth-sleeved pneumatic fenders. Can't say I ever thought about it...

The reason I mentioned the lower rubrail is because it's common to pivot or "lean" on a pole (which often has exposed barnacles at low tide) when slipping a boat (especially in current and wind), and a hanging fender would probably be pushed out of the way by the pole itself. Gelcoat damage could easily occur. It seems that most boats with tumblehome have a lower rubrail.

That's good to hear, and evidence that Southport has heard the suggestion before. It's also evidence that Southport strives to improve their product and listen to their customers.

You mean some people actually hit stuff with their Southport when parking?

I'm shocked!!!

A NJ dealer is advertising a new 28" Express model but there's nothing about it on Southport's website. Any idea why?
