Definitely a Carolina thing, nobody builds better boats than the NC guys, although, some of them (this is a perfect example) have gotten a little extreme with the "Carolina flare." I believe Buddy Davis said it himself that guys were getting a little crazy with that design feature.
Still, she's gorgeous. I would definitely say that's a Charter finish, too.
A bit too much flair, just a little too much, going out of a heavy breaking inlet and you'll be loving that......the house is the worse part of that boat...I see it around all the time...very nice hull, ugly house from the side
Kinda looks like a platypus(sp). However, having a boat with a little "flair" I really like the flair function on our mountain lakes where we get a little bit of chop. We are able to run pretty good and not get wet, even with the chop of 1-2'. This might be a bit over the top, but it's probably pretty functional.

It's odd-looking, to be sure, but I'm not prepared to call it ugly, unless it serves no functional purpose.
Uh, yes it's quite functional. Fishing off the Outer Banks is no joke, some of the gnarliest, "meanest" waters in the Country. Oregon Inlet alone is, in my book (and most others here) the most dangerous inlet in the Country. Not a place for a half-ass built boat. Look at all the boatbuilders that call Wanchese, Manns Harbor, Edenton, Manteo, and the rest of the OBX, home. Pretty amazing.
Read some history about Outer Banks fishing and boatbuilding, it's extremely interesting.
Oh, and by the way, guys, it's "Flare" not "Flair"
