Try 2 bucktail 15" apart tipped with bluefish belly or squid This is a great rig for the big knotheads up here
Man I wish I read this before i went out. I will definitely try that on my next trip. I have found the greenheads will hit higher off the bottom and the old saying "bigger bait, bigger fish" holds true.
I went out solo today knowing full well the trip would be short. I was trying to haul some more bsb in a legitimate 4 to 6 chop. It was sloppy and impossible to stay on target with the wind and wave action. Dragged up 10 more and called it quits before I fell out of the boat.
Here is a pic...that wave headed to the boat was typical....and bigger than it apears in the pic.

aka..... Spec Rig. Also great for grey trout when they're around. Can be purchased @ Wally World around here. Tie an extra dropper loop for adding a 2 or 3 oz weight.
David...... ever try Berkley Gulp for the sea bass? They hit 'em hard up here. Another trick I've used is the Gulp nightcrawlers (yes, the one's used for bream fishing in a pond) for tipping the spec rigs. The Stuff is pretty tough so you can catch many fish without having to re-bait.

Man Tireless you make me jealous. I sit in the shop looking at our boat and you actually use yours. Do you keep it in the water? This winter time crap is driving me nuts. I need to get on the water. Congrats.

Everything is relative. My boat is on a rack 250 miles away and would love to have it near me so I could fix the stuff I break.........your boat is sitting next to you and you don't have the chance to break it.
I will give the suggestion and try Original......your idea is similar to Rich's. Thanks.
Johnny - aren't the blackfish up there like the bsb we have down here...insofar as the taste is concerned?

How deep/what temp were you fishing???
65 feet and the water temp was high 50's, we use double hook rigs and cut squid or cigar minnows. Now if you want to make them really happy, catch and cut up another bsb and send that down on the hooks. The bastards are cannibals.
Try jigging them with a 2oz cripple herring.
65ft is a perfect depth The bigger fish ussually hit the jig..

Nice catch David. I got your message the other day. I worked all week and would not been able to take a day off. Happy new year and unless I buy another boat at least you have someone close to fix the stuff you break.

I figured as much buddy. I hope you are in that new house on the water now. Let me know and I will fly by and wake the he!! out of that dock as see if it is built well. I would appreciate you taking some pics of my boat on plane from about 5 feet away..........that would be a great shot.
jcd - I have a few of those jigs I bought at 3 years ago and have never used. Great suggestions guys.
Re: My favorite fish to eat ..... I just wish they were hard to catch.
Excellent catch. I just returned from a trip myself along the NC coast hunting for stripers. Waters temps are about five degrees to high and I had to kick in plan “B”. I proceeded to turn a dismal striper trip into an unbelievable bottom fishing trip. My wife and I limited out one particular day, and I limited out by myself the next. The bass were in the exact same spot, on each consecutive day. Most of the bass were absolutely huge, with several going over three pounds. I've been eating on them for three days, and look forward to awesome meals to come. When I left my fishing spot, my scope was completely covered up. I'm not much of a bottom fisherman, but I gave myself a self taught graduate course in how to use my color scope and chart plotter. Thanks Furuno. The accuracy and performance was beyond belief on my 582L. Knowing how to find the fish and staying on them resulted in limits in less than 30 minutes. It was an absolute blast, and these fish are one of the best in the ocean to eat. Some would argue the best. I won't touch that comment, but they are damn close! BTW, NC limits are 11 inches and 15 pp also.
