These pics are of a 35' Cabo that was stolen from Ono Island -
The story I heard goes like this:a friend of the owner spotted it while going over a bridge right about the same time the owner had called him to tell him his boat was missing from the dock - the friend got off the bridge and went to the boat ramp right there and got another boater who had just launched his boat to help and give pursuit. During the chase the theif decided to bail and head for dry land (he was in the intercoastal north of the Fort Morgan Peninsula) through the marsh....he obviously didn't make it. The guy jumped ship and left the engines in gear in full throttle. The engines overheated and shut down. Computer logged 268 F !! Engines are toast and will have to be pulled and replaced. They did eventually catch the theif!!

But like most thieves, they will not have the means or ability to pay for the damages,
so the insurance will probably get the tab, the owners rates will go up,
and the thief will walk with a small slap-on-the-wrist amount of time in the local pokey....
Or...if it was a juvenile, the parents might get stuck with the bill...
Shame they dont have debtors prisons still...theft / damages should be considered reason for such an institution...
Realy does suck about the whole situation. But the amazing thing is how far up into the marsh that boat went. The props literally screwed their way into fairly solid ground! Taking the boat with them! Amazing what kind of power is in those drives. But such a shame that this all happened.
Stupid thieves! When you steal a boat like that... Where do they think they can go with it and not get noticed. Its not like they can trailer it over to a warehouse and strip it out there.

How exactly do you get that out of there? Looks way too soft for any heavy equipment.
i seen sea-tow pull one out like that a few months back they where coming in a night and not using there electronics following a red light as there course thinking it was a channel marker for stienhatchee and it was a tower about 8 miles up the hill.needless to say she grounded before they made it to the tower.dusky twinn 200 e-tecs and high tide pulled it out.it wasent quite that high on the hill though.
You are right that is amazing how far into the marsh the boat ended up!!!! The owner has got to be on fire about this.......Let us know how they get the boat out of the marsh!!.....Mark
A fella in NS had a his 40' sail boat stolen from the mooring - he made it all the way to Marblehead area and went aground - he claimed to be arriving from Europe. He had no provisions and no safety gear needed for crossing the Atlantic. Obviously not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Not sure what happened to him but US Coast Guard was immediately suspicious and none to friendly. Not sure if boat thieves are aware of how many weapons most boat owners are able to use if they are caught in the act....boat hook, gaff, shoot gun, multiple knives, winch handle (ouch), anchor (dbl ouch), chain, etc...

I would take the thief for a ride in it after he gets out of jail. he'll probably get out before that boat is repaired. theoretical question if someone were to be killed on a boat in international waters what is the procedure for trial? who investigates? Would anyone on this board say anything?

If it's just you and the "victim of a tragic accident" who were on board, and they never
find the body.........Who's to say what happened?
