I have a question for all you Cuttyhunk visitors. Has any of you taken a dink to the far end of the pond (where the pilings are) and pulled it ashore then walked to the beach on the other side of road? I have heard that the beach is very nice there. Karen and I were out in the dink and went over there. I wanted to give it a try but Karen wasn't up for it. She thought we might be trespassing on someones property (she might be right) but I think there is just a road on that side. Here is what am trying to describe.

Now you've done it Barry! Everyone will know about this great spot.

Just kidding. We like to go over to that side of the island. Very nice sandy beach, awesome water and views across to Newport on a clear day. Just make sure you secure the dinghy is you go at low tide - you could be surprised when the tide comes in and your dinghy has floated away.

yes a vey good spot and I second the importance of anchoring the dinghy over there. Awesome spot for a sunset bon fire and a much shorter dinghy ride rather than walking all the way up and down that BIG hill in flipflops!
I have also caught a few small bass there with a spinning rod along the rocks over to the right hand side.

It isn't private. That is a public beach...at least it is treated like a public beach if some one does own it. The walking route is to follow the road up to the corner store. Turn right and follow the road over the hill and back down to the beach.

An internesting Cuttyhunk story:

My wife is from France. We met in New York and I was trying to describe my life and youth... eventually (rather quickly) the topic turned to boating. I mentioned that we went to this really small island that most people from MA don't even know about called Cuttyhunk. She replies, "Sure I know all about it. I spent 3 weeks there during my first exchange student trip."

Imagine your first taste of America is 1 week in Connecticut and 3 weeks on Cuttyhunk!!!! Cuttyhunk is very typical America, circa 1890!!!!

Cool!!!
So it is OK to beach your inflatable and walk over to the beach? It looked kind of rocky but next summer Karen and I will give it a try. Maybe I can get some video from over there and post it here next Holiday season!!!
I'll try to get back to this thread the end of next week. Karen and I are off to AZ to see Karen's parents.
Ok here is a shot Canapitsit channel/ Vineyard Sound.

Karen and I really enjoyed the pictures. Sure beats looking outside seeing snow (yuck!).
Hope you don't mind but I would like to add a little extra to the thread. Here is a video from a trip to Cuttyhunk late in the season.
