My boy has been out on my boat fishing since he could hold a pole, 2 years old, he's almost three now and ALWAYS wants to fish, even bought him a little pole for the bathtub with a magnet on the end that picks up the plastic fish. Get that guy out there and have fun, don't forget the camera. I have an Aquasport also, a 210 Osprey with a F150 Yamaha I love it.

Don't tell her find the right sized life vest that he will have to wear always while on the boat and he will be fine Just pick your weather alittle better than I do
Re: Something I can't wait to do as a father / son team
Starting with my son at 4, took him to the Stream for the first time when he was 6; a 65 mile run.
Left at 4am; and we had ablast.
Make him feel a part of the crew, give him a job on the boat so he too feels important. Let him handle the fish, and if one gets gone because of that, so what!
Have a great time, it will be the best time and money you ever spent.

I put him in the boat and gave him a fishing pole. I think he is ready to go!! Mom doesn't agree
Then make it more clear to Mom.
He is READY now. My kids were boating by 3 months and fishing as soon as they could hold a pole. Check out my post a few days ago about my trip with both kids.
Re: Something I can't wait to do as a father / son team
Just get up early (before MOM) and conveniently forget your cell phone on the table where she can find it, go have fun with the little guy and beg forgiveness when you both get home...... easier than asking permission......
RE: Something I can't wait to do as a father / son team
How old is he? He looks plenty old enough to go fishing to me. A good life jacket and a short trip on a nice day is a good way to start. Your season is almost over, do you really want to wait another season? Only you know how to handle it with his mom but he deserves to go. You owe it to him!
RE: Something I can't wait to do as a father / son team
My daughter was on the boat at 8 days old.... My 7 and 8 year old sons have been offshore fishing for 3 years now.Same with my daughter (now 10)
The firstpic is of my middle guy when he was 5...we had a big blue shark on the line:
The second pic is him learning to properly "leader a fish"...admittedly a bluefish and not a blue fin.
But without a doubt, my kids are part of the crew. Offshore they know their roles and responsiblilites. One clears Port side, the other clears Starboard side (depending on which side the fish is on). The third drives in circles and keeps the Angler at 4 oclock or 7 oclock....
Inshore all three have caught stripers into the high teens in weight.....
It is never too early to start. Just go slow, keep it fun, catch lots of fish (the smaller the better....talk about no pressure), let the kids dictate the pace and when to quit.....They be hooked before you know it.

Mine is now 3 months old and she's been on the boat several times now. First time, she was 5 weeks old.
Just take it easy on the trips and be prepared to head in at any time. Even if that means you get 5 minutes away and need to turn around. Remember, this is for them...

Re: Something I can't wait to do as a father / son team
Took Jack out 3 weeks ago (he is 22 months old) and he really didn't like it too much. Maybe the diesels were too loud for him? I'll admit a 31 bertram isn't the most kid friendly boat out there but I was bummed he wanted to go in right away. Left the dock, did a little circle and headed back to the dock. Oh well, maybe next time.
