How old is he? He looks plenty old enough to go fishing to me. A good life jacket and a short trip on a nice day is a good way to start. Your season is almost over, do you really want to wait another season? Only you know how to handle it with his mom but he deserves to go. You owe it to him!
He is 2 1/2 years old. I'm working on her. I went out and purchased the life vest and can't wait for a nice day.

I first went to the Bahamas at 6 weeks, your son is definitely old enough. Just be sure to fish for something he can catch a lot of (yellowtail snapper were my introduction at a few years old). My cousin and I also sat atop the rigging station/baitbox on my grandfather's 40ft Pacemaker and watched wahoo, etc. be caught when we were real young too.

To the person above with the kid leadering the bluefish, where are his gloves?

Good point.....

It was only a 12 pound bluefish, which adults can handle without gloves. I didn't expect him to want to leader it. He is usally content with reeling 'em in. But he did say it hurt his hands.

I'll be better prepared next time. Even though I fish with my kids every weekend, we are still learning....

Those pictures bring back memories when I would fish for land sharks out of my dad's boat.

Heading to the beach in the morning after my little girl's 8:00 AM soccer game. I plan on being on the water by 10:30. My daughter (4.5) and son (17 months) will both be in the boat with me. The weather can't be any better with sunny skies, highs in the low 80's, and the water still warm enough to swim. You just can't let them miss days like that!
