Default RE: Oregon Inlet Trip Report...

Mark, you did a great job. The weather was great but I didn't keep up the pace... I should have stuck it out longer.. I was one for five. I am still dealing with some rookie problems. We landed a 38 pounder and that was it. My buddy Rick landed him. He is a Hatteras boy and that was his first tuna and he loved it.
We caught him on a chartreuse spreader bar.

We ran out with the fleet at 5:30am from OI fishing center. When we hit the inlet, the big boys left me behind.

I must say, it was very educational running OI in the dark, especially when it was a little rough.
I pulled in tonight and am just checking all the threads. I talked to SF and he ran around the shoals yesterday and landed a big one around the point.

Hey Chris, thanks for all the help.

Yes, your directions helped allot. I think Robert caught a 70 pounder at the point. I know he pulled in some Mahi as well. He came by the house in Hatteras Saturday night but for some reason, I don't remember all the details.

Alan,
I would like to do a late afternoon- night Tuna trip. The fish were getting cranked up around 3:00. It was nice, there were hardly any other boats when we pulled lines and headed in around 4:20. With few boats out at that time the afternoon bite ought to be great that time of the day. If I ever get another calm day like Saturday, I might do a late afternoon night trip.
We got some real good looks at the green stick boats working. When we hooked up the triple it was on for the green sticks there was one close by and I thought I heard someone over the radio say good fish Capt. Had to be the greenstick boat because he was the only one there. After we boated the fish and hooked up the third there were 4 greensticks working the same area.
We watched a tuna sky on one of their squid but it was a swing and a miss. Then we saw another dragging one Tuna behind his boat. The one stick boat was pulling Pink, Pink/white,Blue/white and natural color squid. He was only about 40 yds away when we saw the tuna sky on his baits. It was pretty neat to watch. The squid looked about 10"-12" long...Mark

It sure did get a bit crowded when those commercial boats saw us hook up.

Chris, my back was good that night after about 800mg of Ibuprofen.

He He,

Mike, an apology, and

Problem solved, will not happen again. Parts are ordered and will be assembled.. My sincere apologies for putting you guys through that.

I had to go to work the next day, draggin around the propane hose thorugh the 'hood you's were playin golf!!

By the way, I will NOT make any other offshore trips for Tuna without a working washdown pump on my vessel, ever again.

Mark,

Seriously, the action on the kites can get really good, and I'd be up for some sort of late afternoon run if your ready.

I think this will be Josh's last trip for a while..

How's the boat running for you Mark and what time is dinner?
No way bro! I'm preppin' the wife for the next trip already...she knows I have the bug, bad. A fishin' weekend will give her an excuse to take the little one and spend time with her family, perfect.

Half of my freezer is full so any time you and the girls wanna head west to Richmond, the grill will be hot and ready.

Good job Mark,

Passed you in the bulk truck trailering in on 64 on friday morning round about the alligator river, but didn't have your number handy.

Those were real nice seas, the nicest I've seen the ocean this year. And 50 lb YFT's in them is even nicer.

Glad you guys got on some fish! Pretty work, and please tell Mike that my card table is now in the dumpster and the new fish cleaning station is in the works. Both he and his back will know what I mean.
yeah . . . those five tuna and the sharp knives sure did a job to the card table
I've also got an order in for some dexter russell's also, Gus, along with a good diamond hone, and also, I've been eyeing some 6' foot gaffs lately. (hint, hint).

Now if I could just convince Lisa of your "this is my jewelry" speech.....
Try my 6 foot gaffs before you buy some to see how they work on your boat . . . they are at Paul's house

But they are my gold jewelry . . . each and every one of them

PS A good fighting belt would also make the fight easier for those days you are only two on the boat.

.

I love the sight of a bloody Contender in the morning.....looks like.....Victory!

Hopefully I can bloody a 300 grain Hornady Saboted XTP through my Savage smoke (less) pole starting this weekend.

You bloodied an arrow this year yet Mark? I drew on one last Saturday, then let down. I should have touched it off. It was a mature buck....fooled me when it slipped in on me like a ghost. Probably a 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 year old.

Nice catch boys. When we goin'?
