Default Garmin GPS Chart Plotter cutting out

The end of last summer, my GPS chartplotter would continually shut off as I cruised thru choppy water. I could easily restart it , stayed on if I was at rest or idling in calm water. it got worse as the season closed.

My guess is that I have a loose or corroded connection (salt water) somewhere, maybe even a less than snug battery connection. I plan to check all the connections in the spring.

Does anyone think that there might be a loose connection or board in the unit itself? I would send it to the factory as a last resort since it is out of warranty.

Thoughts?

I was having the same problem on my Garmin GPSMAP 498C. I disconnected the connector to the unit and sprayed it with Corrosion X. I Let it sit for a little while hooked the connector back up and it has worked fine ever since. Mine would do the same as yours.... come on....fade away or I' d get the message "Updating Software" and then it would shut off.

The problem can be the cheasy little inline fuse holders.
Ive taken mine out wired direct to my switchpanel which is already fuse and now no problems.

i had the same problem with my garmin unit at the end of the season last year. i installed a new power cable (i could see one of the female ends that was slightly damaged) sprayed everything with corrosion X and the unit has worked flawlessly this year.
