Default 88' Johnson tune up

What is the best resource for giving my 1988 150hp Johnson a tune up myself? And before anyone wants to suggest for me to just use it as an anchor, it starts EVERYTIME, and will run strong all day. Thanks!!

For $49 plus shipping, I'd start with a factory service manual if you don't already have one.

I have an '83 Johnson 150, which I may need to repair the powerpacks due to plugs being wet on the port side and poor starting while the through-prop exhaust has back pressure when underwater.

New champion plugs, lower unit gear lube every year; rebuild the carbs every couple of years and the impeller when the pee stream is weak; what else should it need?

I have a 1988 Johnson 225 V6! I get nothing but chuckles and brush-offs when I mention it.... However I have the same experience, Starts every time, the first time, and runs strong all day! dont see too many complaints about them on here, but I do see alot of nice shiny less then 400 hour motors with blown pistons and more!

At most. My 1991 120 Johnson still has the original powerpack, one impeller change and never re-built the carbs. Still runs strong. It doesn't take much to keep those older OMC 2-strokes running well.

I had a 1988 140 Johnson VRO that ran great, ran even better after I changed the power pack. I got a manual and most of my info and parts from Master Tech.
