Well, it certainly wouldn't be worth anywhere above invoice, so figure about 30% off of what "list" is, and that should be the HIGHEST amount to pay.
If you were trading it in, they wouldn't give you anything above invoice (why would they? they could just buy a new one from the factory), so why should you pay any amount above that?
Do what you want, but I'd negotiate on a new one (at a different dealer) and compare the difference in price and then decide which to buy...The new one or the "used" one..
I'm in the same predicament so to speak. Yesterday, I found a 2006 Robalo 240 w/2 150 Yam 4 strokes & trailer. The dealer sells Gradys, & Whalers, & this boat they took on trade. It has 25 hrs, & pretty much loaded. They want 58k. My trade would be 23' Hydrasport w/225 Yam 4 stroke-300 hrs, w/trailer & extended warranty until 2010. They're ballpark offer was 30k. These dealers are such crooks. I looked mine up on NADA w/extras 38k-43k w/o trailer. They were basing my boat on NADA as well. Why such a difference? IMO- they think my boat sucks, but of course they're boat is the best.
I fear this is gonna be a tough winter for sellers up north, and perhaps a little less brutal for guys in warm southern climes.
I have been seeing Seapros, Fountains and some other good brands for as much as 40% off asking, dropping at least another 10% at least, rigged with nice 4 strokes.
MSRP of the smallest twin gas Searay 29 Sunsport, with smartcraft guages, and preferred option package....is about $135,000.
I bet at a boat show over this past winter it was offered for sale at something like $119,900, and a buyer earlier this year likely bought it for about $105,000.
If that buyer were looking it to sell it now, my guess is he'd be lucky to get $80,000 for it privately. If the buyer were trading it up, then Brunswick would play with trade-in numbers and the price of the model he were trading up to, to sell you a new boat. Just like the used car trade-in game at car dealers, he may show you a great price on your trade in and just not discount the new boat as much as he might have without the trade....
... If the buyer were trading it up, then Brunswick would play with trade-in numbers and the price of the model he were trading up to, to sell you a new boat. ....
Brunswick is now selling boats direct to the public? OR do you mean that a DEALER would be setting the prices? Boy...Brunswick sure does take the blame for everything bad/evil in the boating world.
A few years ago I purchased a 28 foot express cruiser which was current years model and traded in after 3 months and 50 hours use for a larger boat. I paid about 30% less than the origional invoice. It depends on the boat, but 10% is low and 30% is at the high end.
Mole, I took literary license. I apologize. Yes, the dealer.
PS I am a Brunswick fan, own a 13' Whaler, and recently moved up from the Boston Whaler 190 Nantucket (now 190 Outrage), so I am not knocking them at all. And if I were looking for a cruiser type boat, Sea Ray would be tops on my list.
I bought an 03 Pursuit in 04. The boat had about 50 hours, was in perfect condition, and I got it for about 65% of the list price of a brand new identical boat identically equipped.
Since the boat market is much softer now, I would think 30-40% off new list replacement cost would be a good deal.
