Default SeaCraft 25 Open

I’m considering purchasing a new 25’ SeaCraft and am wondering if anyone out there could provide me with relatively unbiased feedback. I grew up with a 1970’s model 20’ CC SeaCraft on Cape Cod and the boat was truly excellent. Understanding that the line has gone through its ups and downs over the years and that the new SeaCraft is owned by Tracker, I’m wondering if they have retained enough of the original SeaCraft characteristics to make it a worthwhile purchase. I tend to fly-fish mostly and feel that this boat is laid out particularly well for this. I know there are a lot of really good CC’s out there in this price range but always come back to my previous experience with SeaCraft and seaworthiness of the original design. Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated.

Perform a search on Seacraft. You will find more information than you wanted.

Also search CaptnC as author. He had a transom disaster.

I bought a new 2004 25 Seacraft and sold it inside of a year because it had so many relatively small problems and such a horrible reputation for big ones that I didn't trust it to hold up to much hard use.

Good luck and many here will tell you that they've fixed the problems they had in the past. Based on personal experience I would not recommend purchasing the boat. Just my informed, but humble opinion.

I couldn't disagree more with the previous 3 posters. For some reason Seacraft is a lightning rod for abuse on this board. The majority of negative opinions have come from one or two people a couple of years ago who did an unusual amount of complaining. I used to visit this site on a regular basis but found most of the recent posts were nothing but vapid pissing contests.

Anyway, I bought a used '98 25 Seacraft a couple of years ago and have been very happy with my purchase. I am primarily a flyfisher too and found that this layout was the best for me. In addition, I fish the back bays often and my shallow draft allows easy access. I have a good friend who I fish with a lot and he liked my boat so much he just sold his Grady CC to buy a used 2003 25 Seacraft. Continue to do your homework but if you're smart you will take the posts in this forum with a grain of salt. I am very happy I did.

Feel free to contact me directly.

Ace you son of a bitch! The internet's a small place. Steer clean of those new seacrafts. Junk. Nothing like that old Poter hull we used to beat the hell out of. I've been preping a '76 23CC w/ a straight inboard chevy for my buddy. We took it out in CCB a few times and it ATE 3' chop. Best boat I've ever fly fished out of. Raised some nice stripers too. Taking it to Montauk this weekend, hoping for some Albies. I see Joanie all the time. Figure out how to message me on this thing so we can hang.

Ditto on what jvann has to say. Purchased mine new in 98 and have been extremely happy with both the performance and ride quality of the boat.

Good luck with your purchase. If I can answer questions you have about the boat, drop me a PM

Ever stop to think that getting to the back bays can be a long journey?

As mentioned above the search function will reveal a load of information on the SC25...That being said, I'll tell you I thoroughly looked at several new 25 Seacrafts in my area a few years ago as I was considering getting one (I decided to keep my 25 Outrage, best decision for me). While they are striking to look at from a distance a close inspection revealed shotty workmanship, IMO. The wiring was poor, (birdsnest, and routed terribly). Found screws where there should have been bolts, no gasketed storage compartments, broken latches, and outdated switches (just to name a few). The boats were filthy, and rain water had accumalated in the compartments. The SC25 has a black cloud over it due to some structural problems and resale has probably suffered.....If you plan to use the boat in protected waters it might be okay but offshore could be a different story.....After reading about the lack of customer service from Tracker Marine I would not recommend any Seacraft or Mako to anyone....Just my 2 cents....

Frankly I cover a number of forums, and yes the 1 25 mentioned did seem to have some serious problems and he was everywhere. That being said I have not heard of 1 problem with any other hulls or boats including wiring, most of the wiring comes from outside vendors anyway and come come as complete harness'es. I own a Potter classic and would like the new ones to live up to that standard but they went overboard and went out of business, so it seems they are building a good boat in the new facility in NC, the boats in question were out of an outdated facility in Miami. Most of the posters of course have never owned one or probably never even ever riden in one but they have an opportunity to post because they remember a thread way back when. My .02

unfortunatley, with the internet comes the "self proclaimed expert"...a gentleman who has a financial adivsor position, who tells you what's a great boat, based upon his experiences with his 23 sailfish...this is a prime example....

every mfg has had a few horror stories with their boats-it's the law of averages-more boats they build the more potential for problems...common sense...

here's my opinion...
the newer sea crafts aren't a bad rig...the earlier ones were a little lack in the fit and finish...the newer ones look pretty good to me...i have a customer with a new "classic 20" the boat is real nice,he uses the rig pretty hard and it doesn't have a stress area on it yet-after 2 seasons of abuse....

Call the factory yourself and decide if there is a lack of customer service. People keep hanging on a couple of boats out of a production run that has now covered 8+ years, and basing their opinions on just those. The customer service and warranty is no longer handled by Tracker Marine, as others have stated. It is handled at the factory, where they are built.

I am glad to hear that they've improved quality and customer service so much in such a short time.
