Default Fuel consumption

I have been thinking about buying a new boat. I would like to buy a 21 -23 ft walkaround . Had a 20 ft. proline before walk befor I miss the cabin. My question is . All the boats in this size range have gas tanks of 125 gls. With the fuel efficeny of the new engines why such large gas tanks. Do most of us realy need a tank that big. Also with smaller tank wouldn't you save on weight ? The reason for asking this question is that my Proline 202 DC with a 150 carbed Merc. and 70 gls. of fuel will last me 3 to 4 days of fishing in the Delawere bay, I have set the milage on the GPS and the miles will be around 225 miles, now some of that is drifting mabe 50 of it. but at the end I fill up and its around 50 gls.

Some people travel farther than others to fish, only fill your tank 1/2 way if you don't need the 125 gallons.
I use to do 160-200 mile trips in my 22', I needed the big gas tank.

My Trophy model 2002, which is a 20' walkaround, has an 85gal. fuel tank.
I too enjoy the cabin and the boat has been very good to me in this first season.

What Major Woods said. It's much better to have too much fuel capacity and not use it then to not have quite enough capacity.

Especially for boats that make the trip over to the Bahamas where gas is $5/gal.

Not an endorsement but since it fits your size, etc. We have a boat that seems right on. Check out the C Hawk 222 pilothouse. Has a 70 gal tank. It is purely a fishing boat and is built like a tank. Not a lot of creature comforts. Worth a look if you're a fisherman. Granpa
