Default honda 225's power

looking at a 29 with a pair of these motors. anybody know how the power of these compare to the yamaha f225's?
i know the yamahas are actually pushing something like 185 at the wheels and hoping to have better luck with the hondas.

better luck? i know the go fast guys will disagree but the f225's are great motors, quiet, smooth and plenty of power for fishing / cruising non go fast applications.

but to answer your question I have 225 hondas on a 290 coastal and am very happy with them.

After owning yamaha f225's and now owning f250,s you will relize what pooches the f225's are. I have to admit that I have never ran the hondas , but i cannot imagine them being any slower and dogier than f225's. AND YES MENTALBLOCK AS A "GO FAST" GUY I DO DISAGREE.

I have always heard that the Yamaha 225's were "weak" motors, but I thought that they put out around 215hp, 185 sounds pretty low. To be honest, I have never seen any actual dyno data to support this. By law, an engine can produce +/- 10% of the posted HP rating and still not have it be false advertising. I know for a fact that Honda's policy is not to play that game: every Honda will produce HP equivalent to or GREATER than it's rated power. For example the BF150 (rated at 5,500 per the specifications) actually produces 160hp at 6,000rpm (which is still within the recommended WOT operating range). I have been told by Honda tech management that the 225 puts out around 232hp.

I have a pair of Honda 225's on a 26' Blackwatch. Pushes the boat at 42mph WOT.

I took a pair of Mercury Carb'd 225 hp 2 strokes off a Stamas 29 and replaced 'em with Honda 225's. Best change I could have made. The power was equal to or better than the Mercs. The quietness and economy were added bonuses. My new boat has Yamaha 225's. I find that they are noisier at idle and transmit more vibration to the hull. As you know, the Hondas are VTECs and I think they are stronger in the low and mid range areas.
