Default VERADO FAULT CODES

I have had my 275 verado looked at for the codes STBD Fault 109 shift adapter and STBD 194 ECS timeout. The dealer replaced the Shift Acuater as per Merc , but I am still getting a STBD Faul 194 ESC timeout code and if I don't clear the fauld by turing off the engine, the Motor goes into system shutdown mode. The dealer is befudled. Any Ideas..........????

there is a computer upgrade for the ESC timeout situation - have your dealer cpontact Mercury tech for the upgrade.....it was avialable in July of this year.....

Glen, you knew the answer and did not even breakout the barstool.

No grandstanding here (to the dismay of many, I'm sure) Again, a clear concise answer to help out a fellow boater and THT'er!

The he!l with all of the bashers with the hidden agendas (or just plain nothing better to do)- KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK !!!

You are appreciated.

Glen is invaluable to us as owners, and to Mercury as a representative. I hope when I am in my 50's Glen buys Cats so I can call him about my Viking, LOL

Thanks Glen, OK that was an easy one than I have a few more maybe you can shed a little light on. The dealer says they can not recreate.

1. The systemview LCD turns black and you can not see the content. If you turn the key off and then restart, the display may come back. Or another fix is to go into the contrast setting screen and toggle the contrast and the display reappears and is readable. Here is a link to a photo of the display
http://www.savaglio.com/IMGP0349.JPG

2. This happens intermitantly, and I will either be loading or unloading the boat at the ramp. With the motor trimmed to about 45 degree. I turn the key on to get electrical power and lower the motor. I get a water in fuel alarm code. I can drain the separater but it still alarms? As long as I turn the key off and then turn the key back on after the motor is in the lowered position, the water in fuel code is gone. Any experience?

Thanks, CJ

#1 - somewhere in the systemview settings you can choose your startup defaults - sounds like it is set for too little contrast unitl you manually change it....
#2: if you are getting water in fuel but there is no actual water in the seperator, it has to be a bad sensor, IMO - check the prongs in the seperator that trigger the alarm - they may be bent or touching in some way...

Is your dealer mercury Verado certified? - does not sound like it.... this and the problem above are fairly simple fixes that a good certifed dealer should catch.....Please go get my owner's tips PDF at the veradoclub.com site and read it twice.....

I should point out in the first question it does not do it all the time. In fact it went away for a while and upon starting the boat and turning on the engine the screen mre often displays correctly. Its that one time in 10-20 that the contrast is screww up. Sometime when it happens it can happen repeatedly and then maybe not see it again for 10-20 ignition uses.

I will also try to find out if the dealer is a certified verado repair shop, or atleast the mechanic working on my boat.

Thanks,

JS

this may also be low batteries.....do you notice it happens when you just get the boat out of storage when the batts are possibly low? - Do you use a smartcharger 24/7 when the boat is not being used? How many batts and what are the CCA ratings?

The Actuator was moving when the boat was in forward, and not in reverse. The dealer replaced the actuator the first time around for the fault codes so the continuation of the ESC timeout error was puzzling. Mercury says it is not a software update. Instead they had the dealer drain the gearcase oil and instpect for metal chuncks, none found thank heavenons, next they had the tech make an adjustment to the actuator. The ram will legthen and shorten, and comes preset from the factory. Merc said to tighten down or screw in the actuator ram a few turns and rebolt. If that does not work then it is a twisted shaft. After the tech made the adjustment the actuator stopped oscillating. I am headed out today, for a photo shoot.......hope it works and hope to bring back some good pictures to post of my day..
