Looking at a possible upgrade to the 32 Sea Vee with the single 480hp Yanmar in the belly. Does anyone have any REAL WORLD info on this setup? Just looking for people who have owned or have riden/fished on this rig.
Fished on out of Caloosa Cova Marine in Islamorada, can't remember the name, but I remember the boat was an awesome tank. Rode great and fairly dry, mainly the part of the captain taking care of his clients. Caught a whole bunch of fish and a couple sails.
If I remember correctly in the new issue of Florida sportsman under one mans dream boat there is a SeaVee with diesel power. Not sure of the size and such though.
The one in Fl sportsman is a 29. I own a 29 and it rides like a beast. I didn't know they were making the new 32 with and inboard setup but it should be sweet. There is a 2001 34 setup really sweet on yactworld with a brand new motor for 103k, if I didn't own my 29 that boat would be mine.
I have ridden in a 31 with outboards and a 31 with an inboard diesel(don't know the hp) and they rode completely different. The inboard was much more stable and comfortable in a chop and felt a lot more solid - not to say that the ourboard boat did not, it's just that the inboard handled the 3-5 ft chop better than the outboard did - likely due to the inboard's lower center of gravity.

Mated part time for a friend and fun fished on his 34 single diesel cummins 480 for a couple years. Very good offshore ride 28knot cruise and great fuel economy we fished the bay too and really needed the bow thruster to fish around the pilings and docking. Big fishbox up front, way up front draggin all them tuna up there was fun but wish they could have had it somewhere in the cockpit.

As the prices of outboards continue to reach skyward, I think we'll see more and more of this kind of fabulous set up. I saw the 300 Suzy (bare motor) lists for $24k....
Terry, I fished on a 34 SEEVEE out of Hyannis about a month ago. The boat has trip 250's, so as far as inboard diesels go, I cant help you there, but we took the boat out to Hydro for a day fishing trip, with an average speed of around 50mph and a FAC day, we got to the canyon in under 2 hours, and made it home in under 1.5, blew by the nantucket fast ferry, on our way into Hyannis. The boat fished really nice, plenty of room and decent seating. However, that was a flat as calm day and I dont think i would want to be out there in nasty seas on that boat. The worst part of the boat was having to pay the $1100 fuel bill for a day trip to the canyon. That was rough!!! If you have any specific questions PM me, I can easily get you in contact with the owner, i know he has chartred you in the past, and considers you guys buddies.
Running a relatively large boat (34'9") at ~50 mph could be exhilarating, and get you there quicker, but with a fuel consumptuion consequence. Dial the SeaVee back to a still respectable 40 mph cruise and you could've trimmed that fuel bill by about a third. By the way, I've run a 34 SV in some nasty sea conditions and it held up extremely well.
