Go with the kids name! I am going to let them name my boat as well. Then I am going to teach them how to clean it
I am sorry with names, but if you have any questions about the boat,I have put 150 hours on my 2002 in the last 10 months,I ran a 21 Cape horn for three years as well. Enjoy the new boat,I am sure it will treat you well.
I personally like boat names that tie to something personal...a person, your job, a nickname, lifestyle, etc.
Preoccupation is my boat name because I'm always preoccupied with thinking about being out on the water, fishing, my next boat, etc., etc.
So from all of your suggestions I like Miss Jo-Ann the best. Are there any hidden meanings to the others? You might not want to tell us but if there is it is kinda cool to have your own personal inside joke...
Ok, the new name is GO DEEP, wife thought I was nuts putting on Guppy, she liked GO DEEP (keep it clean fella's)
The finance company, Suntrust Marine, said that was part of the financing. Said the volume of the boat put it over the limit and it had to be documented with the CG. From what I read, I still don't think I qualify, but didn't have much of a choice.
Does anyone know where the "port" has to be posted on the boat, any size lettering, etc?
The port (city and state) has be posted on the transom in letters at least 4 inches high (same with the name). The good news is you don't also need to put state registration numbers on the bow.
The rules for qualifying for federal documentation are a complete mystery to me. It says it has to be at least 5 tons, but tonnage has absolutely nothing to do with the boat's weight. It is actually a measure of volume (length times beam times height of hull) And there are rules for how you measure each of those and then there is some sort of multiplier for what type of boat you have. My boat is 28 feet and weights 8,000 pounds dry but my documentation says it is 9 tons.
I went with my kids when I named mine - Rainbow Connection. I kinda like it.
I like Go Deep but it sounds like it should be a submarine.
Mr Ed... the talkin 'orse!
You could have a caricature of a cartoon horse head with a wink and a big toothy smile...on the transom...
And everyone would say as you motored bye..."who would call their boat "talkin 'orse", and those in the know would just say.." Oh - thats just Mr Ed" hehehe.
Works fa me!
Trouty, that is a hoot! I already filled out the paperwork though, so GO DEEP is it unless I can get the paperwork changed. The name game was a last minute item the finance company through on me and I had not given a name any thought at all until yesterday.
I'll post the info on the DF140's as soon as I can put some hours on them. I purchased the NAVMAN chartplotter with the optional fuel flow meters, so as long as the DF140s use enought fuel to be measured I should have accurate numbers.
