Anyone had any experience with the brand new line of Carolina Skiffs called the DLV series? I am looking for an inexpensive work boat and they look interesting. Seen to have much more "V" in the bow than the old Semi-V series. They look a little like the Maritime Skiff.
Im also highly considering the cs dlv 218 and have posted about it .........it looks like the best for what im looking for
Im going next weekend to the 2 dealerships (we,ve been number crunching back and forth) with my checkbook ready to get something!!!!
I do like the stability. It has a very dry ride. The Suzuki DF115 is enough hp but I wish i had the DF140.
Top speed is 38mph according to the GPS, loaded w/cooler and 2 people. It is NOT a comfortable
ride in a chop. The lack of V makes every little wave hit pretty hard. i have not had it out in any heavy
seas only choppy. There is pleanty of room in the cockpit. i have the delux console w/27 gal fuel tank.
the Suzuki really sipps the gas. I purchased mine from Stroud and Son in Edenton NC. Check them out.

Thanks!....this being my first boat im just nervous i guess....but it seems like the perfect starter and fishing boat. One i can do just about anything in and put it in any water (except the rough seas)........
The DLV does have a different hull than the DLX, totally different. The DLX is a flat bottom, the DLV has tunnels that run the full length of the boat. I purchased my 24DLX from Chatlee Marine in Sanford N.C., and at the risk of being flamed (just read another thread about warranty work being performed by a local dealer that the boat was NOT purchased from), I drove 1400 miles to buy from them. They also have a private test lake on site, its not very big, but you can get a feel for the boat. I would highly recommend them based on my dealings with them, and dealings others have posted on the Carolina Skiff site mentioned above.
What type of work will you be doing from your new boat? What are your needs?
no work just fun fishing and hangin with the fam. I actually am going to see Chatlee Marine next week!.....but everyone says wait for a boat show........i'll get the best prices..? is that true?
Sorry, you said you were looking for a cheaper workboat, I assumed (oops) it was for work. They are great platforms for cruising and fishing in somewhat protected waters, but the boat will take a heck of a lot more than anyone on board will want as far as weather conditions.
Talk to the guys at Chatlee, get a quote and then wait for the boat show and go for the better of the two prices.....I was very happy with their price to start with, all I did was call them up and ask if I could get the same deal one of our locals got a month earlier (2006 24DLX w/ new 2005 140 Johnson(suzuki) 4 stroke, bimini top, livewell, hatch covers, 27 gal fuel tank, cooler seat and trailer for $17,995)....they said "yes" and it was the end of negotiations. I picked the boat up about a week later, took a test drive, did a walk around, signed the papers and was back on the road in about an hour.
By far the most pleasant of the larger purchases I've ever made! No hastles, no last minute changes or suprizes, everything went exactly as it should have.....I would buy from them again in a heartbeat!
Good luck with your search....not sure what the DLV's are fetching on the market now that the 'newness' has worn off a bit.....might be able to get close to the price of a DLX. But.....if weight is a factor, they ARE a fair bit heavier than a DLX.
There are three dealers in North Carolina who really do the numbers with Carolina Skiff. Also they are close enough together that they have to be competitive on price. They are...
All three are excellent dealers...all sell Suzuki. I'm pretty sure Sam's and Chatlee also sell Yamaha. Sam's and Stroud & Son sell Road King Trailers. Chatlee sells another brand. Personally I'm a big fan of Road King...especially the alumimum trailers.
I got mine from Sam's Boats....no regrets whatsoever.
I just ordered from Chatlee...Thanks Chum and you were right they Beat the other three quotes and threw in some extras!!
they didnt have anyleft (they just had a boat show) but mine will be in in 2 weeks!!
I got the galvanized trailer.....?....should i upgrade (400$) to the aluminum?....and why?
thanks Catman!
Chatlee had mine on a Wesco trailer.....I haven't had any problems with it, looks very well built and sits low to aid in loading/unloading/cleaning. But it weighs in at 1050 lbs empty according to the DOT plate. I only trailered it a few times before putting it on the boat hoist, and the ramp is only 1.5 miles away, so the only real trailering I've done with it was the 700 miles to get it home. And no.....I don't miss the boat ramp at all! ,lol...

I'm a new member. How do I get to the responses to your question re the DLX series?
As you probably did not notice, this is an over three year old thread. There is little to be gained for you by resurrecting it. The old participants are gone, etc., etc. You will be better off to start a new thread (in this, the Boating Forum) asking your questions about the DLX.
