Default RPM Gauge Stopped Working

One of my RPM gauges stopped working. I have twins so I connected all the wires to the other gauge and it still didn't work. What else can it be? The motors are twin 2001 Mercury 200 Carbed. The gauge was actually acting funny (changing RPMs alot up and down) and then it just died. Any ideas? Thanks alot ....

Default Re: RPM Gauge Stopped Working

not sure if the yr makes a difference but i have twin 95 150 hp mercs and i had the same problems with my tach and it ended up being a rectifier, there are 2 per motor and the tach wire is the gray one, the tach wire is connected to the upper rectifier, try disconnecting the gray wire and connecting it to the lower rectifier,

is the battery charging ok?
