Default Lowrance Question

Here is the deal... I have a lowrance 330c that has been sent back under warrenty 4 times. Once for Sonar issues and 3 times for GPS issues. It has worked fine the last year and is now completely out of warrenty. This past saturday the unit turned on by itself and just kept resetting. There was now way to use the unit.

I called lowrance (after being on hold for 20+ minutes) the nice lady gave me a RA# and said to send the unit back with a check for $175 and they would repair it. I can understand it being out of warrenty but I'm afraid to spend $175 and be in the same situation in 7 months once the warrenty runs out again.

I have furuno and garmin equipment on my boat that is flawless for the past 3+ years. I have a garmin gps on the boat, the 330c was being used as a bottom machine and backup gps. I'm thinking I would be better off putting the $175 towards a furuno 582 and smashing the s hit out of the 330c. I know I would be out a little cash on the 330c but I would feel a lot better! LOL

What would you guys do?? Furuno and smash it or $175 bucks and still be dealing with a POS?

If it were me, I'd speak to the nice lady's boss, and ask what Lowrance would be willing to do for me. Four warranty repairs says to me that you got a bad unit, either by design or by manufacture. You're not abusing it, are you?

I already tried that. They stuck to their guns about it being out of warrenty. As for abuse, I don't think it has. Its on a walkaround boat shielded from salt spray. When its off the boat I have a case with padding and cloth to store all of my electronics. I've had zero problems with my garmin and my furuno.

Mine started doing that one time...freaked me out...then the circuit finally tripped. My FM antennae is under the console and was touching the post that the GPS was connected to. Ater making sure this would NEVER happen again and resetting the fuse, the GPS came back on and has worked fine ever since.

Very slim chance this is the case, but thought I would throw it out there.

Never had a problem with a lowrance. Own 3 units.

you may have a corrosion problem with the power wires leading to the unit. Remove crimped on connectors, clean wires, reinstall new ones and try. Also, if hooking to a panel, make sure panel connectors at battery are clean. Clean them.
