Sorry I haven't gotten back to your PM. The '97 is one generation older than the really bad '98 and '99 FICHTs. It all boils down to how the engines have been maintained and how the continue to be maintained. I recently sold a pair of '99 150s with just over 3000 hours. One was an original powerhead and the other had been replaced at only 50 hours. So, they were both solid, 3000 hour engines and still going strong. Synthetic, manufacturer oil run since they were new makes a difference too. I'd inquire about that.
Finally, I don't really know all that much about the air-cooled computer but it sounds to me like it's a bit more reliable than the water cooled versions (sand can plug up the cooling passages and cook the computer).
