Default 97 Fitch 150HP

Making an offer on a GB with these engines.

Are they as bad as their reputation?

YES . . . Didn't you need a mooring anchor ?

I screwed around with one for a few months and sold it. The motor only had 181 hours and the pinned heads . . . still had the air cooled computer and old style injectors. I have the software still if you need it, but I'd recommend unloading those ASAP.

It's 11 years old and it runs. Can't be all bad. Not worth much though that's for sure so may be able to get a deal and save some for the repower.

What time zone are you in? It's 9:08pm - August 16th 2006 here. Just busting your balls. Seriously my engine only had 181hours in 8 years b/c the friggin thing didn't run. I put on 30 hours of that time. It was the biggest POS motor.

Bull,

Sorry I haven't gotten back to your PM. The '97 is one generation older than the really bad '98 and '99 FICHTs. It all boils down to how the engines have been maintained and how the continue to be maintained. I recently sold a pair of '99 150s with just over 3000 hours. One was an original powerhead and the other had been replaced at only 50 hours. So, they were both solid, 3000 hour engines and still going strong. Synthetic, manufacturer oil run since they were new makes a difference too. I'd inquire about that.

Finally, I don't really know all that much about the air-cooled computer but it sounds to me like it's a bit more reliable than the water cooled versions (sand can plug up the cooling passages and cook the computer).

I'll get back to you on PM about your other questions. Good luck.
