Default Trailer Lights-Alternating Working Question

I've got a funny thing going on with my trailer lights. The break/ turnsignal lights work one side at a time, alternating randomly. I thought I had blown one of them, so I replaced it with a submersible light. Worked great. Took it out, dunked it, brought it back and it wasn't working. Then I turned the car off, went back to investigate, turned it back on and it was now working, but the other side wasn't. This seems to be randomly switching now and I can't for the life of me figure out why! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Run a dedicated ground wire down each side of the trailer. Connect each light to this ground. Connect the ground to the white pigtail on the flat connector. The trailer lights will then be grounded to the tow vehicle. I did this and have not had a problem since.

BTW, I found this solution here on THT

dont forget to check the trucks wiring harness as well. I spent a good bit of time trouble shooting the trailer this weekend only to find a bad connection on my truck. When i would hold the plug to test it all was fine but when i let go the weight of the plug would pull the wire out.
