That surprises me as i recently shopped around for a 26' cc w/275 verado and found progressive to be the cheapest. You might want to try Boat US.

I called Heritage ins. and talked to Christine her number is 800-999-5251. She got a ploicy from Vigilant Ins. Co.
They saved me $200.00. I used to have Global Marine Ins. Vigilant insures alot of charter and private boats
around the country. they also quote agreed value which is very important.
Good luck

I went with NBOA, as I'd heard decent reviews of them and they were significantly lower than anyone else. Your results will likely vary and be very dependent on what kind of boat you have.

FYI: I am a licensed Florida insurance adjustor and have been for over 12 years. I used to handle boat claims among others and currently work at a law firm dealing with insurance claims. Be advised, you get what you pay for. I would not recommend just going with a company based on "the cheapest" price. If you find yourself in the unfortunate position to have to make a claim for your boat and you have to deal with a "cheapo" carrier claims department, you will be kicking yourself for not spending a few extra bucks for decent coverage. I'm sorry that I cant recommend one to you, I personally have Progressive on my 3 boats and I know that they will handle a claim if I make one. However, I do not endorse any particular carrier. Just be careful about cheap insurance. I could tell you horror stories for hours, but this is not the the proper forum for that.
Go with a larger name carrier that you and/or several other forum members have heard of.

I know of fly by night companies, (some in Miami) on auto polices that quote you a great rate, you buy a policy and they close up shop 6 mos later. You never even had a policy, they just gave you a copy of one, but it was never bound with an actual insurance company. Friendly advice: Stay away from "el cheapo" insurance.

ADDENDUM: IF YOU GET A LOW QUOTE FROM A BIG NAME CARRIER, BY ALL MEANS, GO WITH THEM. I JUST MEANT STAY AWAY FROM CHEAP QUOTES WITH CARRIERS THAT ARE UNKNOWN.

The service writer at my dealer told me to stay away from Progressive because they are not easy to deal with when it comes time for repairs. Does anybody have experience using Global marine for repairs?

Research the company. Check and see if they have an AM best rating. That shows that they have actual finances and can pay out on a claim if need be. Also shows proof of existance. Go for Progressive, Travelers, International Marine Underwriters, State Farm, BoatUS, etc..

My boss filed a claim with Progressive on his Harley Roadking that was struck from behind by another biker. The insurance company was great, they paid the tow and repair bills, minus the deductible, in a timely manner and did not raise his rates. I hope that that i never need them for my bike or boat, but i feel that they will take care of me if i need them.

I'am in the auto body business and will not work on a progressive claim unless it is a close friend or family. They are the worst to try and cut corners and not pay for things and in general just hard to work with. Plus most of there adjusters are kids that have no clue on how to fix a car. I have talked to some of there adjusters about how hard they are to deal with and thats what corporate tells them to do . Now with that said I have my boat insured with them agreed value150k and my wifes camper 15k agreed value, I just pray they are total loss if I ever have to make a claim. I,am also considering switching next jan when the policy's come due. I hate being a hipocrite sending money for something I value to someone I hate to take care of something I love. Just my .02 worth

I work as a Marine Underwriter for a major insurance company. I agree with the above, if you get a cheap quote from a major or large company go with it, should be fine.

Universal Marine Underwriters and NBOA are both very large marine agents. They know there stuff. And have the employees that can anwser your questions.

I insure my boat with statefarm with the agt that has my house and cars. I went with them becuase of price but the staff doesnt know there marine policies at all. For me its not a problem becuase I do know them but if your unsure and looking for help, make sure your agent understand and can anwser all your questions. That is probaly the most important thing to consider.

I used USAA for all my insurance purposes. USAA does not cover boats directly. Instead, they contract policies to Progressive. As picky as USAA can be, if they endorse Progressive, they're tops in my book. My little Cat was $170 a year full coverage.

All of our policies are with State Farm. Granted they are not the cheapest on Home owner and car but I was very pleased with the boat insurance. Half the cost of Boat US. I know from experience they are great to deal with though. I was in a car accident that was my fault and they paid for the repairs completely however, after the repairs the frame was still warped so State Farm went ahead and totaled it and refused to pay the repair company. My check from State Farm was extremely fair and I came out somewhat ahead. I know this sounds like and advertisement but it is truth either way...
