Default Permatrim vs. Bob's

I am looking to get a "foil" for my 26' Wellcraft to improve its overall performance. Have read all related posts on THT and have narrowed my options to Permatrim or Bobs. Has anyone had experience with both. If so, which performed better? Actually, my main question is: Was the Permatrim worth the extra money? Any additional opinions are certainly welcome.

I don't know if there are all that many owners that would have experience with both. The PERMATRIMS have been available in the US for only about 2 years.

I am entering the 3rd year on mine. They have done all that is advertised and still look like the day I installed them.

The pictures on this site seem to be down probably due to server maintenance. However, the conversations in the link below are worth reading. I have the pics from that thread and if you are interested in seeing what a permatrim looks like on an outboard shoot me an email and I will reply..

Do a search and you will find a wealth of info on this. I also run a Permatrim and I have been purely satisfied with it in every aspect (fit/finish/strength/performance)..

I also looked at the Bob's, Permatrim is hands-down a better unit!

Later,
Chris

Thanks for the replies guys. BIG E, what boat/motor setup do you run and what did the Permatrim do for you, performance wise?

ProKAT 2200 W/A w twin 140 Suzukis. So I have 2 Permatrims. I load my boat HEAVY,and most is in the stern (dual baitwells, fishboxes in the cockpit floor, plus a coffin cooler, not even thinking about the engines!). First benefit was more stern lift, increased engine trim w/o cavitation, lower planing speed w/o exaggeretaed bow lift, maintains plane at lower speed and no loss of WOT (very common to DOEL FIN and BOB's). My boat is a planing cat and is very sensitive to trim adjustment. With the PERMA's installed, I need to "fiddle"less with motor trim angles in varying sea conditions.

My buddy installed one on a 21' Seaswirl CC w/ 200 FICHT and experienced pretty much the same. Also INCREASED his WOT by almost 2 mph to nearly 53! Worked great on an Aquaport 25' and a 27' I/O Sea Ray. I know of 4 Glacier Bays that have also seen increased ride and performance increases INCLUDING better WOT. One of those GB's is on a custom built cat used by TOW BOAT US on the North Shore of LI. He is getting almost 3 mph more at WOT. I never really meaured fuel economy with/without but I imagine that is improved as well.
Unlike most of the other foils, they are not wing shaped to give lift. And they are definitely built to last and look "finished".

The permatrim looks very much like the WhaleTail XL hydrofoil stabilizer.

I put one of these on (WhaleTail XL) onto my hydrasport 22 wa and just waiting to try it out.
