Default Suzuki DT 225 Shift Control

I have a 2003 Suzuki 2 stroke on my 23 Sea Ox. Since it (motor) was new I've had a problem with the shifter. When the motor is put into reverse (as in docking) it will rev up too quickly if even a small amount of pressure is applied to the lever. When put into forward, the speed can be easily regulated. This is a real problem when maneuvering because I simply can't adjust the speed in reverse. It seems to go from idle to 2000+ RPM at the slightest touch, but only in reverse. I remember that the tech who installed the control box (binnacle mount) had to change the innards around for it to work on my installation. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
SZ

You've got something binding in the control box, possibly the cable ends wound in too far, or something not put back together properly when the tech swapped it from 4-stroke (push to open) to 2-stroke (pull to open). You should bring it right back to the dealer. If it is Morichies Boatyard, you shouldn't have a problem as they are probably one of the best Suzuki dealers on Long Island.

No, it was done by another shop about 40 miles away. I think I'll have to wait until late in the season to get Moriches to look at it.

Thanks,
SZ
