Default Four Winns Dealer Question

2005, Horizon 180. 4.3 litre, trailer, and a few extras.

What would dealer cost be on this? Dude says he's giving me dealer cost, but I am not sure.

Price will vary from dealer to dealer. It depends what the volume buy in the dealer has for that year. It also depends when the boat was purchased. Boats normally cost a dealer less in the start of the new model year vrs one that is ordered later in the model year.

What model? What type of trailer? Does it come with the gatorhide trailer with brakes or the painted trailer. I just purchases a 2006 220 horizon w/5.0 MPI. Fourwinns is a very good boat and does carry the high-end market. How much does he want for the package?

You can speculate all you want, but...

If he's willing to tell you that he is selling the boat "at cost", then tell him to put his money where his mouth is and show you the invoice.

If he is truly selling at cost, he shouldn't hesitate. If he shows you some made up "stock card" or some other phoney paperwork, he's jacking you off.

Most salesguys just tell you that to "low ball" you so you don't shop around. Make him prove his statement before you buy. Nothing wrong with that.

Since it's an '05 model, it isn't even worth the invoice amount any longer. Throw the invoice out the window. I'd negotiate below invoice. Anything higher, and you're paying too much.

Good luck!

He's sending me pics and more details tonight. He's out of state from me.

The MSRP is $25,353.00, plus $300.00 for "dealer prep" gets you to $25,653.00.

He's got it listed at $19,100.00, indicating that as his cost.

Should I take it, or offer $17k, or what?

I'll hang up and listen.

Have you found any other dealers with leftover '05 boats you can compare this price with? And they don't need to be Four Winns dealers, can be any brand. Dealer-to-dealer price comparisons are more realistic than attempting to calculate discounts.

While this sounds good in teory, in reality it can be very inaccurate. Boat manufacturers have different dealer discount schedules that can range from 15% to over 44%. So Brand "X" may have a retail of $10,000 and a dealer cost of $8,500 and Brand "Y" may have a Retail of $10,000 and a dealer invoice of $6,600!

Not only that, but certain dealers of the same brands can have a different discount schedule based upon their volume and other ordering incentives that the factory may give from time to time.

There is no rhyme or reason to which builder has what either...... It is one of the more confusing aspects of the boating industry.

Absolutely true Steve. That is exactly why I advise shopping mulitple dealers instead of worrying about one dealer's cost. Get the best value for your needs, not worry about the rock bottom discount. If your discount is on an overpriced boat, then the deal could still be a poor value compared to a different dealer.
