My biggest complaint is the paint.... will peel at the least nick and "touch-up" kit
will cause the original paint to "orange peel" on some parts...causing a small spot to
be a larger problem !!
You should be able to get your peeling paint problem taken care of under warranty. The only "gray" area is the fact that you are partly responsible for the pealing since you nicked it in the first place. Many times Honda will make what we call a "good will" repair. Go to a Honda dealer in your area and show him your problem. Ask him to call the Honda Warranty Dept to discuss and see if they offer up anything. Alternatively, call Honda customer service at 770-497-6400 and tell them about your problem.

The only complaint I have, is in order to remove one of the spark plugs you have to remove the side engine cover and it can be a real pain in the azz. Honda dude has this been changed on the new year models?
No, you still have to remove the port side cowling to access one of the spark plugs on the 225. The 150 has easy access to all 4 plugs.

You are overpropped. You want the Honda's turning 5,700 - 6000rpm at WOT. The horsepower will keep going up with increased RPM. It is an absolute fact that the 150 is rated at 150hp @ 5,500 rpm. What Honda does not tell the public is that this engine puts out 160hp at 6,000 rpm (the rev limiter kicks in at 6,200). Propping the engine so that it gets as close as possible to 6,000 at WOT will ensure the best possible acceleration at all lessor RPM's. You need to drop to a three blade 17" pitch. Try the Honda/Solas "titan" series, 15 1/4" diameter x 17" pitch. honda part # 58133-ZY3-A17S, or go talk to a prop shop in your area.

I have twin 225's on a ProKat 2860WA, bought new in September 2003. These are my first Hondas, after a lot of Evinrudes over the years. The motors are really quite good. Quiet, economical, and absolutely trustworthy on a heavy boat - they cruise in the mid to upper 30s, and she'll run right at 50 at WOT. I am very impressed with the motors, with no problems. I've not noticed any significant shifting issues. Would buy again.
Yes I heard of that. Like most of Honda's Service Bulletins, I have heard of it, but have never come across an engine experiencing the described issue in the field.
Some of the not-full-throttle problems were also traced back to rigging mistakes, i.e., throttle cables were mis-adjusted such that the throttle linkage on the engine side of the cable was not going to full throttle when the throttle arm on the helm side was pushed to WOT.

2 years and 800+hrs on a 225. One minor issue (now sorted) with the engine 'hunting' up and down by a 100 revs or so when off the plane, but nothing of any consequence and would happily recommend.
What caused the hunting? My BF225 (70 hrs - 8 mths old) has done this on two occasions when heading out from the ramp. Both times it stopped within the first couple of miles.
Thanks,
Sorry, I can't remember the details. This is one of a fleet of boats I own/operate. I remember though that it wasn't a major problem and the fix cost was pretty minimal. If it is happening on your new engine, I would get it looked at, as it probably isn't just an one off incident (bad fuel etc), and won't fix itself.
We also have a Honda 90 with around 600 hours and that has had the intake gasket replaced and smokes a little more than the 225. Other than that, it starts and runs like new.
Charleston is one of the fastest growing areas on the coast.... Many snowbirds moving
"Half-back" to SC/NC from the Florida scene .... We Have no "Honda" dealers among
so many Marine Dealers.... Our Last one carried "Everglades & Scouts" and they shut the doors........... Economy is one of the best in the Nation... growing 12000 a yr.... Give me a DEaler here !!!
I have to go to Beaufort or inland to Walterboro !!!

Honda Dude: I've had my Bf225 Honda on my 220LTS Triton for 16 months. Its been flawless. Its quiet, good on fuel, reliable and my hole shot is great. I'm running a 15.25X17 Pitch 4 blade powertech ofx prop and WOT is 5900RPM's. I almost went with ETec, but my dealer talk me out of it. He had problems with the first Etec's he had sold. He said when he put Honda's on a rig, they rarely come back for anything except oil change and filter. I believe he's right. Last time I was by his store, he told me he had sold 5 Etec in the last year, and change out 5 power heads. I'm glad I went with the Honda. Rangerman
I was thinking the I would be the 'silent partner' (which means I don't do any work, bitch about the revenue, and collect a salary plus percentage of profits, and constantly borrow the inventory for my personal use).
Big Oil profits - heh, heh, as you know, its only exposure until you liquidate the position. My crystal ball is due back from the shop in a couple of weeks, so if the price of crude can hold steady until then........

My manual calls for oil filter 15400-plm-A01PE...As we do not have a Honda marine dealer
close I went to the Honda dealership and got the 15400=plm-A01 (No "PE") It looked almost Idenical... Is the "PE" suffix just to direct the same filter to the "Marine" application
or is there any real diff ??
I have a 2005 BF225 On a 24 foot CC. The engine was my second choice to the Etec. I was going to have to wait for two months to get the boat. So, I went with the Honda. Best decision I ever made! The engine absolutely sips fuel and has had zero issues. The shifting is smooth with a 17P stainless prop.
I love the fact I can go to NAPA or Autozone and buy most of my routine maintenance parts at a reasonable cost rather than have to buy them at a high margin marine dealer.
Every time I have been checked by the USCG their boats had Honda engines. I asked them for their feedback and they have nothing but positive remarks on their reliability.
I would like to see Honda at least come out with a 250 HP engine. I intend to upgrade to a larger boat in the future and I would buy a pair of 250 Honda's in a minute without reservation.
Their reliability and customer service sets the standard for every other marine OB engine manufacturer.
These are my first Hondas. I must admit they have not been on my "A" list because
I like many others have always chased the most pwr/ccu/speed as the # 1 criteria ..
I quess we all eventually realize that we should buy a motor that performs best in the
operating range we spend 99% of our boating...cruise... where economy and reliability
rule... When I am 60 miles or so offshore and its time to go to the barn....I feel a little
more relaxed knowing the Hondas are back there...... I will concede 1-2 mph @ WOT
for that confidence.
2005 Honda 150 - 175 hours in first 18 months....absolutely flawless. Sips the gas...i am averaging 4 gph over the lifetime of the engine. I have it on a 21' Nautic Star bay boat. I did not like the 3 blade stainless that came with so I upgraded to a 4 blade powertech. I haven't looked back yet! I have had to start carrying an empty 5 gallon gas can and a siphon hose, becasue this thing is so fuel efficient that it wants to MAKE gas at cruising speed. I have to make more room in the tank!
