I have the 300 HPDI, and it runs perfect - very strong, but all things being equal, the F250 has been more reliable. I haven't heard anything bad about the E Tec, but there are many more F250 motors out there and Yamaha has more dealers / support. Good Luck!

For me it comes down to the best service - every motor in the category is reliable and a good buy. Choose the dealer first and then the motor...and cetaimly a dealer who has vast volume expereince at repower jobs...many don't...

Your boat was built before all the heavy 4-strokes came into the market. I suggest you select a motor that is on the lighter side of those 3 choices.

I recommend the E-TEC either 200 HO, 225 or 250. They offer great power and only weigh about 525 lbs. They have a very good track record and they dealer network is quite strong.

In addition, E-TEC have raised the bar for outboard engines:
3 years/300 hours no scheduled maintenance. Always good to have your dealer do a quick check every year
No oil change, no oil to dispose of, no oil filters either
No break in
Very quiet
Cleanest outboard on the market. Very low CO emissions
Low fuel and oil consumption
A lot of power and torque and much more

I highly suggest you find an Evinrude and get a demo ride.

My vote would go for a Suzuki 250 or 300.

Cheers

Etec any size over everything including a diesel outboard if it was available.

hahhaha the captain of the SKA team I fish on would strongly disagree, he runs a 23 TE Mckee craft with 200 E-tecs..they keep the boat in the shop and get terrible economy to boot.

it seems all the listed motors are great, however it also seems there only as good as the person who riggs them...e-tecs with bad economy, sounds like something aint right,

E-Tec, American made and the best and it's not a stupid gutless 4stroke, E-Tec has the best mileage cleanest burn lowest weight most torque of all engines! Zeke

That must mean that all E-Tecs are no good and no other engines break down. hahahaha

Outboards by nature are troublesome, we all know that. Go read the hows' the e-tec's running thread and guess which team I fish with. If you're telling me the problems kevin has had to endure with his pair of E-tec's is normal or ok I'll have to strongly disagree. I really don't want to get into a pissing match with anyone about Etec's but it can get a little tiring hearing all the hype and knowing that it isn't exactly the truth. Evinrude is the company advertising 3 years no maintenance, it's not something I made up.
