Default Yamaha F150 Low RPM Squeaking Noise

I have a pair of F150's with around 50 hours on them. They run great and have had no problems with them performance wise.
I have recently noticed that once they were warmed up they are making a squeaking noise only at idle and very low RPM's. It sounds like a squealing fanbelt on a car engine. When you increase the RPM's it goes away, and does not seem to make this sound when the motors are cold. Has anyone noticed this issue or have any thoughts as to what might be the cause? Thanks for the input

My buddy has twin F225's and one of his always do what you describe. He has about 300 hrs on it now.....It started after 30 to 50 hours also...The mechanic said it is normal and nothing to worry about. It will decrease in intensity and length of time over time of use.

I also had the same problem. If you do a search, there's an old thread that shows you were to spray some silicone spray to fix the noise. If you spray the spot about once a year, it should do the trick. Mine will still do it every once in awhile, but I just ignore it. According to everyone here and the few mechanics I've talked to, it's not anything to worry about. My motor started making the noise at about 50 hours...now it has 400 hours and still makes the noise on occasion

I can not believe it is normal. I also have twin F-150's, and my starboard motor does it. All ready took it in last December. The "fix" lasted about 3 months now it is back. Port motor has yet to make so much as a squeak. I believe the shaft going down from the powerhead to the lower unit is not true (straight). And, starts this "squeal" as it wears into the seal going into the lower unit. Mine will be going back into the shop this winter again, unless it get even worse than it is now.

It's the driveshaft bushing. No big deal just an annoyance. Mine did it after it warmed up and I just had it replaced with the new larger diameter bushing.
Oops, was this supposed to get out?....

you can spend the money to have a certified mechanic apply the grease....or you can spend about 5 minutes yourself doing it.....after greasing, the noise on my motor goes away for about 100 hours....then it's time to grease again

Do a search under "yamaha noise" or "yamaha squeak" and you'll see how common the noise is and what others have done about it

Awesome information! Thanks all. I found all of the old threads as well. Other than the noise the motors are excellent so far. Thanks again for all the great information.
