Default Yamalube

I have twin Yamaha 250 ox66's and was wondering if Yamalube was a necessity or could I use any TCW3 oil. Any suggestions?

I have one of those motors and the manual says recommends yammalube, but any TWC3 will work if you can't use yammalube.

This is more of a theologic issues than fact based. Some swear by it, other just swear.

FWIW, I have an evinrude ocean pro and generally put in cheap 2 stroke oil(walmart stuff). Someone convinced me to get the manufacturer's evinrude oil - I was a skeptic but tried it. The engine runs smoother, quieter and less smoke so I am sold even thought the oil is 2X the price of the Walmart stuff. Just my .02 but I think there is something to it.

I'm very hesitant to use anything else. I just had new powerheads put in and the Yamaha people say it's the thing to do. I realize that it's their product and pushing it, but if I can use another oil at half the price, I'd like to do it. 9500 bucks for two powerheads makes me think twice on chancing it.

Also depends how often you use it. I only go through 8-10 gallons in a season so I don't care about the cost difference if the performance is improved. In FL if you are using tons of oil it may matter. I'm with you - rebuilt powerheads with that kind of cabbage leave little to chance.

I've seen what yamalube does to powevalves and won't ever use it again. I only use synthetic oils personally.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I'll stick with the Yamalube. I try to go with the manufacturers recommendation, just getting really expensive with the cost of fuel.
