Default Prop Question - 225 Etec's

A buddy of mine has a set of 225 Etec's with the 21P Cyclones (4-Blades) pushing a 26FT Paramount. At WOT trimmed out he is turning 6100rpms. He spun a hub in one of the props last night and he is looking to change them out. He was looking at either going to a 23P Rebel or 23P Cyclone. He was also thinking about maybe a pair of Rev4's but he has no idea of what size to go with on those. What do you guys think?

Can you get him to post some speed numbers he achieved at various rpms with the cyclones?

4000rpm - 40MPH
4500rpm - 45MPH
5000rpm - 50MPH
WOT (6100RPMs) - 60MPH

He said for the most part from 40mph up the rpms are right along with the MPH. He just wants his RPMs down in the 5700-5800 range without losing MPH.

According to his numbers, he's got about 6.5 percent slip on those 21's. That's very acceptable.

If he's happy with the performance of those props, he'd probably be right in the ballpark rpm wise by stepping up to a set of 23 Cyclones. I doubt if he could spin a 23 Rebel. Most likely, a 21 Rebel would be in order.

He will probably find that one is more efficient at certain rpms/speeds than the other. The Rebels typically yield very good MPG numbers at normal cruise rpms. Can't tell you a whole lot about the Cyclones though. The only way he'll ever know the difference is to try them both and see what happens...

power tech props are some he may want to look at,i used a new pair on a 24 GW w/t 150 hp johnsons that maxed out at 5700 wot loaded,14.5x21+ they were,i understand they are a pos pitch vs a neg pitch of most oems, made the boat more responsive, picked up the bow and incresed the speed by 6 mph.

One other thing. Is his 225 a HO model or a standard ETEC?

6100 rpms? max operating RPM is 5800 on the 225. maybe thats why he spun a hub? sounds like perhaps a little more prop is in order. if he is spinning the 21s at that high RPM, i think a move up in pitch might be the right move. our experiences are with the 200s, but should be close. we spin the rebels about 5% faster than the vipers, and the cyclones about the same as the vipers. if he's happy with the cyclones, then perhaps just a move to the next pitch size, which i think is indeed the 23.

If you go with propgods.com you could try a few and find out exactly what you need without guessing.

you're in sarasota - go with Ken at propgods - the best setup going - try them all at your dock/ramp and buy the ones you want.....
