Default marine Speakers

Someone recently posted a link to a online stereo shop that had a good deal on some mb quart speakers. i have searched this forum and the electronics form and cant find it. the page i saw had the mb quarts that are normally 199 for about 119. any help locating that web site would be appreciated. i am in the process of accumulating the components to install a stereo in my new sea pro sv1900. i am more interested in quality componants than "pure/high fidelity sound." 300 - 400 seems to be my buget for basic am/fm/cd + speakers. any comments on the different brands available.

thanks

I have found that infinity speakers linked up to aquatic Kay head units is the way to go. The head unit is features totally stainless steel chasis. You can find these items at Boaters World

do not be confused with the new vs old MB quarts - the most recent ones are made by a totally diferent company - see mike groves at swfl navigation for details...for $400 I would do a sony or clarion head unit and a pair of JL Audio Coaxils...

Some 8 years ago I put in a Standard Cassette/AM/FM receiver and Standard speakers, I replaced the Cassette unit with a JBL CD/FM player with wired remote and still have the Standard Speakers which still sound good after getting hit with salt water and fresh/rain and rinsewater which very much surprises me after all this time. I'm on a totally exposed center console that rides well but takes a fair amount of spray in anything above 2-3 foot seas.

My buddy has Clarion speakers that are exposed on a Center Console as well and they have held up quite well for the past 2 seasons.

I think if you get speakers that are advertised as "waterproof" they you'll do just fine.

Polk car speakers are designed as marine grade. I have a pair of the Momos in my boat and they sound great. The Momos require amplification.

I think you need an amp and sub to carry a quality sound in a boating environment but then you're talking second batter and selector.

Ceesfishing. I found a link for some MB Quarts. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...facturerID=624. If you google "mb quart marine" a lot of sites come up.
I have the 6 x 9's and like them a lot but I have heard like Glen E said about different makers. I also heard that the cheaper ones online don't carry the same warranty so do your homework.
Good luck.

I got my MB Quarts from these folks and have had no problems. They came with full warranty from MB Quart, no different that if you buy from the local Big Box store.

Not an advocate and I have no interest in the site, it's just my experience.

cheers

Do yourself a favor and check out the new pioneer speakers. A little pricey for the 6 1/2s but loud as hell, great sound quality, and last forever.

Grant. I don't think you get the warranty from MB Quart. If you read the warranty on the site it says a 1 year warranty from onlinecarstereo, not the manufacturer. You have to return it to them for repair.
