Default OX66 Yamaha 200

Just had my 300 hours checkup on my 2003 Yammy, now at idle speeds it sounds like it's chocking and it shuts down. At running speed 4500 RPM it isn't skipping and runs like a top. Any ideas on what to check? Thanks!

Check O2 sensors. Probably need cleaning.

Thanks, is there a website or book I can purchase to learn how to do this myself? I pay my mechanic 75.00 hr to even look at it, but the work and follow up are great and I trust'em.

Yamaha's web site promises to sell you any service or owner's manual for any product back to 1984. You can buy them directly from the web site.

Thanks FF I'll check it out. Man do I want a 4 stroker, my neighbor just put a Suzuki 250 4 stroke on the back of his 24 Hydra-Sport and it flies and is quiet.

Easy job to change out, the cleaning is a pain. If you have a bud with a glass bead cabinet (not sand) it works best on the housing and dogbone, NOT the sensor. Most machine shops will have one. Soak the business end of the sensor in ring free overnight. The gasket kit is about $18. I think it's an 8mm socket and 22mm combo wrench to disassemble. I would normally disconnect the wire plugs, pull the unit, carefully place in a vise, remove the sensor, clean, install. You might want to do a seafoam shock first.

I don't think it's your O2 sensor. Symptoms of a bad O2 sensor is worsened fuel economy, more smoke at low speeds and the rpm will fluctate at higher rpms not miss as you are eluding to. You may want to check for fuel delivery and for fouled plugs!

Spoke with mechanic on the phone today, didn't think my Yammie had an O2 sensor. Said I might have to adjust the idle? I'm going to run the boat tomorrow and take some notes, such as RPM's at idle, ect. He said he did a complete engine check last week on the 300 hr. and all looked well. Seems like it sure does burn alot of petrol though. Thanks for the replies.

What is "chocking"? Never heard this term before.

I know about chocking an airplanes wheels but somehow it does not fit this situation.

Chocking, i.e., ruff idle, engine vibrates heavily and shuts down.
