Off topic and joke replies to threads

Again there seems to be an abundance of off-topic or "joke replies" made to serious posts on the forum lately.
I'm all for keeping things light but if someone posts issues or has questions and you must give a joke reply could you at least follow up with a serious reply or helpful answer in the same post?

Derailing threads with off-topic replies or puns will keep new users from participating on the forum and weaken the community.

There are plenty of off-topic areas on THT to share your wit and humor. I try my best to at least keep the Boating Forum area of THT as serious and helpful as possible.

I agree and could also include the "sounds fishy" and "doesn't sound right" replies, just short of calling someone a liar.

My apologies Wiley, I had been doing a bit more that recently. Sometimes it was easier to take a jovial approach to threads started to stir the pot, or ones that were inflaming people. I will be a bit more serious and not respond to the above types of posts. Good Call.

Guilty as charged.......I throw myself on the mercy of the court. Something just comes over me whenever I see a post by CAC.....it's as if some unseen force pushes me to make an off-color remark or smart-alec retort.
I will make a concerted effort to resist that force......please don't ban me.....I promise to do better........

I have no problem with these type of joke replies - I participate at times myself. The point is to keep them out of areas like the boating forum, trading dock etc. THT has a Bilge area and a Sand Bar for these type comic posts...... even Dockside Chat if you must.
