Re: looking for a good resort in the upper keys???
Cheeca Lodge is an excellent place, but it can be pricey. Check out the Kon Tiki in Islamorada, also. Excellent place, been there forever. Clean, quiet, nice docks, nice pool, and pretty reasonable price. You can get a regular room with two beds and a small fridge for about 100 a night there...

Not a Hilton but nice accomodations at a good price. We stayed in a lg efficiency w/ small kitchen. Close to the hump for some good Tuna fishing. Most locals chum and cast net ballyhoo for bait.

Capt. Squiddey - you obviously do know much about the Florida Keys or Cheeca Lodge. The OP asked about a good resort WITH dockage that was easy on the pocket. Cheeca Lodge is not "EASY" on the pocket, as it is just the opposite - there are very few resorts in the Keys more expensive than Cheeca Lodge.
And dockage at Cheeca? Well, yes, they do have a long dock on the ocean side. But this dock is VERY exposed to the elements/wind, and if the wind is blowing from ANY of the northern quadrands, then the Cheeca Lodge dock is a death wish for your boat.
And if you stay at Cheeca, what about a ramp? Cheeca has no ramp, while some resorts in the Keys do. So if you stay at Cheeca, where do you launch your boat? Ramp fees in the Keys can run $10-20 to lauinch, and another $10-20 to recover - not "easy on many pockets" as the OP has asked
Re: looking for a good resort in the upper keys???
I always thought those were transient slips at the Checca......no way would I let my boat take that beating over night! I usually stay at the Moorings (makes Checca seem reasonable but the wife likes it). Kon Tiki is a reasonable compromise on price/quality and you want to keep the boat on the bay side. So much to do in the Key's.....do a snorkel, flats, light offshore a couple of good meals and a Jimmy Buffet wanna be singing, what could be better!
RE: looking for a good resort in the upper keys???
Anchorage Resort right at Jewfish Creek Bridge. Like a Holiday Inn, with good dockage. You can run to Angelfish Creek or south and out the ocean thru Pennicamp park. Or you are right on the bayside.
RE: looking for a good resort in the upper keys???
The Marriot in Key Largo is very nice and has dockage. Not sure on the price as my brother-in-law works for Marriot and gets us a "price" when we travel. If your trailering, I would launch at Pennkamp Park.

Way over priced (and not well run -- I would never stay there again for a variety of reasons)...
Bay Point condos in Tavernier offers some pretty good deals on 2 bedroom condos for substantially less than the Marriott...
I'm not 100% sure about their dockage, you should call and ask. They do have a nice set of docks, some are for some small charter boats, but it appears they have some for rent also. Well marked channel in and out. I often stop there to eat dinner on my way to the mainland. They have an Outback Steakhouse attahced that has beautiful outdoor dining. (I live in the Keys so its ok for me not to eat fish from time to time!!! and I think this restaurant has one of the best outdoor settings in the Keys if you get on their lower deck) The whole place seems very well kept and a nice pool and beach-like area with hammocks.
Hampton Inns aren't generally too expensive, so maybe this will fit the bill.
Re: looking for a good resort in the upper keys???
Another option if you really want to kep the price down would be to rent a slip at Pennkamp and stay nearby somewhere more reasonable. We did that once and atyed at the Holiday Inn which was very nice and we got a great deal. You should never pay full price for a room in a hotel that is not full. I always go in and negotiate, You have a better chance at a hotel with an empty parking lot. Its hard to do if your making reservations ahead of time though.
