Does anyone know if there are any differences (or problems) between the 2002 4 stroke and the 2004 4 stroke 225 Yamaha? I am buying a new engine and my dealer found a 2002 new-in-the-box(5 year warranty) from another dealer that I can have for $1000 less than the 2004.
I have a 2004 F225 and still received a recall notice on the throttle linkage bearings having to be changed... so even if you buy a 2002 all the recalls & upgrades will be done on your motor free from Yamaha... there are no internal changes....they are the same motor...I would save the $1000 if I were you!!!!
There were first and second generation 225's but I cant tell you where the cut off is. Flying bridge may have a point about resale. 2004 boat and 2002 engine?
It would have to be a minimum of a $2000 difference for me to even consider. 2 model years will have a huge impact on resale. You should get a 5 year warranty on the 2004 as well under the Yamaha promotion.
Mud Runner:
The boat is a 1998 Grady... As for resale, I "heard" that Yamaha is coming out with a 275 4 stroke, so I may not hold onto this for long. I'm "coming down" from a 250 EFI
Thank you and finadict for the information. I will bring it up with the dealer.
