Default OUPV Renewal

Hello all. I am coming up on my 5 year renewal. I dont have the 360 days in the water so I will either have to get a Sea School one day refresher course or take a USCG Coast Guard examination to make up for the sea time.

Has anyone taken this renewal USCG exam? I heard that they will mail it to your home and its an open book exam, but I don't trust the source of the rumor. I cannot find any other source for specifics on that exam. I am in Puerto Rico and my nearest Sea School facility would be in FL. Maybe I can save some money by taking the USCG test. I have heard also by rumors that it is a very difficult test.

Here is what I found about renewal. Forget the rumors, what you want is about half way down the page, in a blue area. I have never had to take the sea school, I don't know. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I had seen this page before. I just wanted to know if anyone here has taken that USCG open-book test exercise. Want to have the details of the test as far as how many questions, etc. The SeaSchool refresher course is a one day deal. I did SeaSchool for my original OUPV 5 years ago.

other people have done this and it looks good plus my boat hull that I bought had sea drives removed so this will be a up grade from the 2 holes left behind from that. I am going to beef up the stringers and also adding 2-3" to transome, if it came with outdrives with power I would of left it alone, but I have to work with what I got and I am just happy I got a bertram hull. The people who had it before me should go to jail for what they did to it.

yes it is open book, they do not send you any of the books needed . you are on your own for that. its not just from the rules of the road book. and they give you some wierd questions you wouldnt expect for small boats.you can send your test to some of the training companies for evaluation before submitting to mmc. they will tell you correct answer if you missed . whats cost of one day deal it sounds easier
