Default Attention Oil Rig fisherman: Use rig hook or anchor-which one do you prefer??

I fish the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. I prefer to anchor on the up current side of the rig. That way the back of my boat is facing the rig. If it is too rough, I rather hook on the rig with the rig hook on the down current side , of course. What is your thoughts on this? Thanks in advance, Doc of the Bay

I've cought more fish anchoring on the up current side 50 yards from the rig and chumming back to the rig. Pulls the bigger fish a little off the rig with less chance of getting cut off in the rig. Rig hook is a lot easier but I still prefer anchor when I'm not in a hurry and the weather cooperates..

Rig hook or hold the boat on the upcurrent side with the engines. Way too much trouble to anchor. Besides, lots of the rigs we fish are in 300-5000 feet of water which makes anchoring impossible

RIG HOOK! Water depth might make anchoring a non option. Diving under those rigs I can assure you that there is plenty of debris, piping, etc. under the rigs to hang up an nice expensive anchor, chain and rope on. Use a rig hook and on those rare days when the wind and current are going in opposite directions, troll.

If we mark fish on the upcurrent side of the rig, I'll hold the boat over the area and let everyone else fish to see if their is any size to them. I rather using a rig-hook because then I get to fish also.

You will catch a lot more fish on the upcurrent side of the rig, than you will hanging on the downcurrent side from a hook.

Beside that, most of the rigs I've been close enough to read the signs, are plastered these days (since 9/11) with "no mooring" warnings. Have any of you guys been hassled for tying up?
