The Topaz name and molds were bought by Egg Harbor Yachts. They are producing the boats at their plant in NJ. I'm sure if you call their office they would love to talk to you about building you a boat.
B-F is correct. Topaz never owned the Silverhawk molds but did build some boats using them. The ones listed for sale are leftover or used models. Egg Harbor does not own the Silverhawk molds. The Silverhawk (or "new topaz 24") is not currently in production. The Bimini 24 is the origional topaz 24 currently being built by Bimini Marine and is a sweet boat.
The 2004/5 boats for sale are the old Silverhawk's that topaz was making. They have since stopped making this boat. The silverhawk/topaz 2004/5 is based on the Seacraft 23 (same running surface) with more flair.
They used to make a 24 but topaz sold that mold to Bimini. So Topaz doesn't make a 24 any longer.
I was looking at the Silverhawks, then I looked at the topaz. If silverhawk was a stable company, I would have looked and possibly bought it. Topaz seemed like they were made nicely, but they only offered an I/O w/ a big box in the cockpit. I don't know what the quality of the topaz vintage is like, but the Silverhawks had a good rep. I have no firsthand ownership experience to offer.
Silverhawks are great boats. As far as I know Topaz is still making them. They are listed on their website and my local dealer is still selling them. Great boats! Have fished them a number of times. It is a good package with an i/o. These boats are very popular on Cape Cod and hold their value very well. DO a search here you will find some info.
mpwitte is the former owner, designer and builder of the Silverhawk. I owned a Silverhawk for 5 seasons. Loved it. Great value, great ride etc. Mine was I/O and is the best choice for the Silverhawk. The bracket and outboards make the boat porpoise a little. Topaz started building and selling the Silverhawk mostly to the same specs a couple of years ago. They were asking around 80k for a rigged boat so it's no wonder they got out of it as quickly as the got into it. A good condition used Silverhawk is a bit hard to come by.
One of the larger superfreak Topaz owners is on this board
Modunlavy. I have been helping him restore his for the past
5 years. We had is boat apart down to nothing and built it
back up. Its prolly one of the finest 24 Topaz examples in the
country. Not trying to brag or anything
There is a new 24 Bimini Express (2006) with t/Yanmar diesels and a trick electronics pkg. available now from Dan at Bimini. It's an awesome ride and very fuel efficient. With the twin diesels it is extremly agile as well. Dan is the builder and the salesman. I guess You could say, Dan's the Man!
It seems the Topaz website hasn't changed since they were bought. Egg Harbor bought Topaz last fall. They also own some of the old Davis molds and just recently bought Avanti. If you want to see a boat with a similar design that is still in production by the same company that started it, check out the 24 Albemarle. Available as a center console or an express with either gas or diesel.
