Default Need help, boat wont start.

My brother is at Smith Mountain Lake, trying to get his brother in laws boat started. If he cant fix it he will have to spend the day landlocked with the sister in law from hell.

MercCruiser v8 of some kind. No spark from plugs, No spark comming from coil to distributor wire when grounded against block.

Bad Coil? What should we test at this point? Thanks.

Check the kill lanyard first then the shift interupter second. either can be by passed to escape inlaws or other life threatening issues.

Take a jumper lead and apply 12v from the battery to the + side of the coil (purple wire) hit the key. If it still doesent start put it back on the trailer and watch the 500.

rotor button is under your distributor cap. Its normally a little plastic deal with a metal tip showing. It is what spins around and makes contact with the plug wires. If the metal tip is burned or screwed up looking, it can cause a problem.

Is the battery hook up top a battery perko switch? May be in the off position.
