Random Quote: I drink in 'Moderation', it's a long drive, but the beers cheap & always ice cold!
I'm going to look at a 1977, 19' Mako that had it's originally white hull painted black. Is/was black ever an original color? Just curious. Also, what is the reputation of the 1989 Yamaha 130? Good ol' workhorse if properly maintained? The guy's asking $6,000.00 with a new trailer.
I've got an older, early '90s, Yam 130. Yep, she's a good ol workhorse that's been properly maintained. Impellor changed regularly, Yam oil. Change lower unit lube regularly.
Only problem in its life was corrosion in the cooling system, restricted water flow and couldn't run over 3500 rpm. This happened in year 10 of a lifetime of salt water use, and once cleaned, she's been going strong for the past year.
Two years ago at the Javits cenrt I saw a beautiful Mako center console with black gel-coat. I do not beleive any of the 70-80 vintage makos were ever available in any gel-coat than their famous off white color.

Off the subject somewhat but I posted two pics of my Mako in the Photo section of the site under first post. Wanted to see if I could get some pics up.It is an 87. If you are interested, have a look.Sorry I am unable to answer your question.
Makos have been a white, or off white, gelcoat from the start. Many folks have painted the gelcoat after they bought it for a variety of reasons. On older boats it's usually because of oxidation.
Having said that, in the early to mid-90's, they did some custom gelcoating. A doctor in NC ordered a 17' and a 282 in matching black that were sold by Pages Creek Marine in Wilmington (they are now a Pursuit dealer). They also sold at least one in "Carolina Blue" -- not sure if Dean Smith was the buyer!
Ringleader , thats a very nice MAKO . If I was a ctr. console kind of guy I wouldn't mind having one like that at all
That's exactly what I wanted to see. Thanks. I knew I'd seen a few black hulls, but wasn't sure about Makos. Looks pretty sharp.
I enjoyed ClassicMako.com as well.
