Score one for the NJ public school system...

Seriously though, you are missing a variable. Namely speed. You can't "convert" it without knowing the vessel's speed.

Divide the speed in miles an hour on the GPS by the gallons an hour on the flow meter.

Ouch, 1.25 is not very good is it? But those triple Verado's look great on the back of my Triton 351. At these prices the Verado's will never see 4000 rpm's, I just leave a little early now and don't push the engines.

Take the recipical of the 2nd derivative. But that is only valid when the temp is above 3 degrees kelvin. If you use 87 octane, then you must raise the derivative by .5 power, if you use 93 octane, you square it.

If you can afford trip Verados because they "look great", do you really care what the mileage is?

Huh...what's the problem? You are getting 3.75 mpg per engine.

You'll need to track this a bit. Compare the miles travelled on your GPS to your total fuel burn over a day to get an average number to use when making plans.

You can also do this with side-by-side comparisons to get an idea how much you are burning at various speed settings. Say 30MPH shows a flow rate of 10GPH you are getting 3MPG. 20MPH/9GPH 2.5MPG. Fantasy burn... 60MPH divided by 4 gallons per hour = 15 miles per gallon. That's MPH/GPH=MPG

Have fun!

I have to wonder how a guy who doesn't know how to figure out how many mpg his Triton 351 with triple Verados gets can afford said boat.

Are you a drug dealer?

He probably never worried about it before. Perhaps he's now planning something more than running up and down the local coast where he can pop-in to fill it up.

Drug dealers are very good with math.

I would find that very good my friends boat with twin 250 Verado's gets less than 1 mpg @ 32-35 mph.
What is your top GPS speed ?
