Default Yamaha Controls

Just took delivery of a new boat with a Yamaha F250. Every Yamaha I have owned or operated the control has always floated back including this one(some worse than others). Meaning if you don't keep your hand on the throttle it will back off and slow down. The lone Mercury I had didn't do this. The Yamaha controls are much smoother, but I like to be able to take my hand off. I know there is a tension adjustment, but I don't want to start messing with a brand new motor and mess something up. Will that adjustment fix this problem?

Thanks,
Chad

I agree with you, don't mess with the controls. Just took delivery two weeks ago of f250. The controls were somewhat tight, and the weather was snotty going across the bay to my slip. I didn't open up passed about 3200 rpms, but as I fluctuated speed, I noticed it was somewhat easier to throtle back than forward. My opinion, let's get some hours on the motors before messing with any adjustments. Good luck with the new boat.

It's a adjustment. It can be tightened up some now and loosened up some a little latter.

Tell me more about the tension adjustment. I've got a dual yamaha binnacle and one of the controls is exremely stiff. How do I loosen the tension? I pulled off the handle and the plastic cover and didn't see anything that looked like a tension adjustment.

Well, I loosened the tension screws but the throttles are still very, very stiff. What next?
