Dropping the boat off next week to have it sand-blasted, 21ft Contender. Then the marina is going to paint it with Pettit Vivid (Red). Person before my mom that owned the boat had it bottom painted. Now the bottom paint looks like s&%t. Going with a Pettit red and was told this hardly even looks like bottom paint when finished. The boat is now lift/trailer stored. I will report back with before and after shots once it takes place. She is trying to get it back to what it looked like pre-bottom paint, and get back the small amount of perfermance lost.
I have searched and seen a few people have used it. Looking to see if anyone has used the red or another color and cares to post picutres of it?
Thanks
I did. I haven't had time for it to age yet, I applied it only a few weeks ago. It's been in the water once and still looks the same. I wouldn't say it doesn't look like bottom paint at all, but it's a huge improvement. I applied mine with a brush which does show, but it isn't bad. A roller might make a smoother appearance and sprayed would be even better, but I doubt you'll find anyone who wants to spray bottom paint because of the biocides. It does have a nice satin finish to it, which is unusual for a bottom paint.
Warning! Do not have your boat sand blasted. Pay the money and have it soda blasted. My father had his boat sand blasted and spent more time and money in the long run filling voids. Soda is much safer!!!!!
I had my boat soda blasted this spring because the marina I used to paint my new bottom last year did not prep it properly. Here are my results.
I am interested too. I have a gallon of Vivid BLK and a freshly scraped and sanded bottom just waiting for paint.
Just want to make sure it is good stuff.
I applied vivid blue on mine - at first thought maybe it was going to be too strong a color, but now love it. The boat has been in the water in northern Florida (Gulf coast) for about two months. I see a slight slime line, but nothing too bad.
I used Vivid on my new go fast CC last season. Boat was wet slipped from May till Jan. Paint performed very very well. Put 375hrs on her so she wasnt just sitting around either. The builder was impressed with the paint, but I have no idea how he could tell at application. I will just touch up the waterline and launch- thats it. I reccomend it.
