Default Boat Lift

I recently installed a boat lift for my 26 Regulator, and in the process of installing the bunks. Just wanted to see if there are any easy ways to figure out the correct spacing for the bunks. I have another lift for our boston whaler, but it was easier to line the bunks up because the boat does not have a deep V. The deep V is what is causing most of the concern for me on the Regulator. I surley don't want to get it on the lift and realize that it is resting on the I beam or hitting a through hull. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Call Regulator directly. They can tell you how far apart the beams should be towards the bow and how far apart at the stern. They will be different widths because of the gradual Deep V. They will taper out.

Another thing to be careful of is the front:rear balance of the boat on the I-Beams (not the bunks). Though not highly scientific, a good way to get you into the "ballpark" is to set the boat about where you think you'll have 50% of the weight on the front beam and 50% on the rear and then raise it slightly out of the water. Take a screw driver or other metal object and "pluck" the cables like you would a guitar. The cable in the front and the cable in the rear should give you about the same pitch sound. If they are far apart, then the higher pitched cable is too tight and thus is supporting too much weight. Simply re-adjust until you get about the same pitch sound on both ends...

Getting the front:rear weight distribution is important from a safety standpoint.........

Good luck!

Just installed a lift for my 28 Southport. As was stated previously, go to Regulator directly for the specs. Southport faxed me a schematic of the hull, with the load bearing points on the hull, and a diagram of the bunks with dimensions and proper angle of the bunk. The bunks are evenly spaced, not wider at the stern.

Be sure to have your boat higher at the bow than rear so water will run out, not collect.
