Default Yamaha Extended Service Plan

Just received a letter from Yamaha wanting to sell me an extended service plan for my 2002 225 4 stroke F225TXRA. They want $2420.00 for an additional 3 year service plan to cover repairs needed due to "mechanical breakdown." It does not cover any "normal wear" items such as seals, gaskets, water pump impellers", ect. I would like to get some imput from individuals who know more than me regarding any history with this plan or with mechanical issues and costs for repairs to this engine. Thanks for your help.

I'm not saying that it will happen to you but I broke down due to a failed computer one month after the warranty was up on a Johnson motor. Was I ever glad I got the ext coverage and Sea Tow. That said, I got it for my pair of '03 F225's. The price they quoted you is AWFUL high. Contact Andy, who is a vendor on this forum, for a quote. I'm sure you'll be pleased. His link is below.

I have the same situation. Interested in hearing different opinions. I do know that in FL the cost of the extended warranty is A LOT more than in other states. I think you can get it for around $1800 per engine in anotheer state. Stilll a lot of $$$ and will look forward to others experience.

Don't forget its a Yamaha 4S. This is not one of those other motors that have to be setup perfectly, needs highly trained techs to operate or needs many factory updates to keep running. Therefore, IMO sounds pretty expensive to me. Instead i take my F150 in once a year and tell the dealer to do everything to it that it needs. This costed me $280 the 1st year and $320 the 2nd. Also I change the oil myself once in between with Mobil 1. Plus I visually inspect and clean the engine often.

Wish i never would have got an extended warantee on my 2003 Tundra 4S. Waste of money cuz it always runs perfectly and has never broke.
